F 150 won't start.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I need your expertise. I have a friend’s 2002 Ford F-150 xlt 5.4 Triton V8 I'm not that familiar with it. Here's the problem. I turn the key, hear a click, sounds like it's coming from under the dash. all power dies when key is turned. Comes back on with key in the start position. Battery is good, all contacts on battery and solenoid are very clean. I checked power to solenoid ignition stud power there when key is turned, checked power to starter side it's there when it should be. I gave a rap to starter nothing, still the same symptom. Then tried screwdriver jump on solenoid I get a few sparks, no crank. That's all the testing I did because it's freezing outside. Any trouble shooting help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How do you know the battery is good? It can have the proper voltage and still be bad. Auto parts stores can load test it for you.

Hi Roadie, All I can verify on the battery is that I put a charger on it, tried jumping it with my jeep, voltage is holding at just over 12 and about 14.9 when hooked to Jeep. Forgot to add, when I turn the key with a meter on the battery terminals there is no voltage drop at all, needle doesn't move. Just ordered a Foxwell BT100 pro analyzer, will do a load test when I get it, hopefully next week. Battery is about 1 yr old.

Hi people, still can't get the f150 started. battery checks out ok as per my analyzer. Sent a friend (the actual owner of truck) underneath, he cleaned up the ground, we tried grounding direct to battery... nothing. then he put my 12v light tester on the s terminal and when I turned the key the bulb would lite. Now here is where I get stumped, he put the light on the battery terminal on the starter and was getting constant voltage, with the key on or off. I'm going to try to attach some video I took of what the vehicle is doing when I turn the key.

Okay, weather got better working on truck last weekend, pulled starter took for check, starter good, brought battery in, battery good, checked ground to starter, ground good, cleaned all corrosion and replaced end connectors, checked solenoid, it's good, checked fusible links, they are good, checked continuity of wires, all good. Truck still won't start. Any direction anybody can send me on what to look at now. I would appreciate any suggestions. 2002 Ford F-150 xlt 5.4 Triton V8

It will rule out a frozen driven pulley.
