2006 f150 4.2 has short in circuit 904

I did the flow chart test on why my battery indicator was on and had no speedometer or coolant temp guage reading. And when I unplugged the 3 wire connector from the alternator and turned the key to run the battery indicator was on indicating short to ground but not sure if it means the wire or alternator is shorted. Hoping for some assistance with this issue. Thanks in advance

welcome to the forum

just want to help clear things up "short" in electrical terms is a connection that shouldn't exist, like a power wire shorted to ground

people often use the term "short" to mean an issue, but it could also be high resistance, or an open wire that are causing your symptoms

So there are 3 types of faults in a wire:
short
high resistance
open

Thanks for the input. I have been checking everything and can't locate where it is. But all lights on the left side of instrument cluster are lit up and the speedometer and temp guage no longer work. The trick still runs fine .
