Luckily mine had some metal shavings in the socket and when I got them out the lighter worked fine. I never found out how to take out the socket though.

I am searching for removal too, for a blown fuse on my 2000 F150, which I keep in remarkable shape. Not found a way to access the right-hand cigarette lighter to replace it...blowing fuses.

When I had my '99 (which was my dad's old truck), he was a smoker. So we had to replace that twice when we owned it. If I recall correctly, to get at the right hand socket, we had to remove the radio. It's still a tight fit -- you need small hands.
