Electrical or alternator issue

Help please!
I have no idea about trucks!

I have a 2008 ford f150 and one day after work my battery just died, I had some one give me a jump, after I would turn off the truck it wouldn't start any more, I went and got a new battery but then after a day of driving it, my battery light came on on the dashboard, then all my gauges and radio shut down but my truck never stopped, I drove it home, cleaned the battery cables and readjusted the battery. It was fine all weekend, drove it around a couple of times and now is doing it again. I will take it to a mechanic as soon as I get a day off, but does any one know if this could be an alternator problem?
sucks that I have no brothers or dad to help me out in this type of situations!!!

You can go to an auto parts store and have the battery and alternator tested free in the parking lot.

Nonsense. Crap wears out. You just happen to be congregating at the same place at the same time. You have different generation trucks with different electrical systems.

It seems like it was the alternator, it's been replaced and no issues

I have a 06 5.4 and the gauge will stay normal most of the time but sometimes it will jump all the way to high and won't come back down until you turn it off. So I tested it while it was spike and the meter is reading around 12.5 or so. Any ideas what may cause this?
