Upgrading from a 95A to 130A alternator
I'm posting this for search reference since I couldn't find much when I was looking earlier.
If you have the 95A alternator, it has the same mounting points (3x 15mm bolts) and pulley size as the 130A. It does have a bigger case, but don't let the 17 year old behind the counter at VatoZone tell you it won't fit- it's a direct swap. My 95A died and for $15 more, I went for a 130A reman for $117 out the door. It took me 6 minutes to reinstall it. |
Never mind... I was going to ask what year truck you have but it's posted in your link... so a 98 F-150 V6 4.2 is a direct swap... I wonder if it would work on my 2002 5.4L? If I ever need a new alternator I will check it out and report back...

Yes, it is a direct swap for all 10th gens, regardless of engine. The mounting bracket and pulley size are all the same for 4.2L V6, 4.6L V8, and 5.4L V8, the only difference is the case size (bigger internals) but it doesn't affect mounting.

Ford used the same size cable on all their trucks regardless of the alternator

Wow, thanks for the info. Good to know...

Good to know the alternative alternator info.
On my 2001 F150, there are 2 identical alternator mounting bolts and 1 odd one - it has a 15 mm hex head, but also has a stud sticking out the end where part of the AC system is clipped on with a 13mm hex nut. This odd bolt is too long to fit a standard 15mm hex socket, and I am not strong enough to use a combination or obstruction wrench. Off to Sears to buy a deep 15 mm socket that should fit. |
