Rainy day starting problem. What's causing it?
 

After sitting in the rain two days, my new (to me) '99 F150 will now not respond to remote entry or start. After the first day, no remote entry, but I unlocked it manually and started it normally. Second day (today) no remote entry and no start, either. Not a peep when I turn ignition key. I live in Oregon, gotta have a truck that runs in the rain! Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Rain may not be the cause of this issue. One might not want to automatically assume the cause-and-effect theory for this case.

But let's assume that a tornado came by and unleashed torrential rain directly (and only) on your truck. (LOL https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif ) And somehow water got under the rubber seal and behind the glass and short-circuited the actuators, this still does not explain the malfunctioning of the remote start.

Check the fuse box.

It can also be that your system is heading south.. Is it factory or after-market?

Right on, LeanNCut! In my dismay at not being able to start the truck when I needed it for towing, I suffered a brain disconnect. First law of troubleshooting: look for simple solutions before digging into more complicated ones. Things are back to normal now that I've replaced the battery in my key fob!
I was jittery because my truck has two passive anti theft systems - the stock Ford system plus an aftermarket job the original owner installed. I had to learn the routine for disarming the aftermarket system before I could start it. The Ford dealer says forget warranty coverage if I have problems because of the aftermarket system, so I've been nervous about it.

check your fuse box(take cover off and look on the top of it). I'v seen a few 1/2 tons that water has leak through the windshield seal down to the fuse box and shorted it out. Just a thought.

I have 1999 f- 150 andit leaked on the top right corner of the window. This caused water to leak on the fuse box causing the truck to start by itsenf, and funny things to happen witht he stereo and lights. You might want to take it to an auto glass shop becuase the ealer most likely will not know what you are talking about.

Absolutely correct Summitman. Picked up a 00 F150 SuperCab 4X4 April 30 with 3000 Kms on it. Noticed a leak Passenger side top Windshield and took it in. Dealer made appt. with the Body Shop as Windshield Seal was installed incorrectly for Today (Mon June 4th). To bad it rained like hell here last Wednesday. Filled the Fuse Box and then for good measure, filled the Computer Module, which then fried the system. Truck has been in the shop since waiting for module from back East.
