Help F-150 guys . . . son stranded tonight 130 miles away. Suddenly won't start

Son just called from a town 130 miles away. His 5-6 year old F-150 won't start. Battery dead and jumper cables from another car ain't getting it done either. He'd stopped on the way home at a convenience store and his family is out of town. This happened without warning.

He says there are a couple of larger wires going into the fuse box, one is yellow. Don't know about the other one. The fuse box is continually making clicking sound . . . until he removes a fuse.

Any ideas? I'm not familiar with late model Fords . . . and he's stranded.

Thanks!

Sounds just like what happened to mine. New battery fixed it right up.

Thanks for the quick reply! Is this the opinion of others too?

Gosh, I wish I was there. I'm not familiar with his truck but could probably figure it out if I was there.

Mine is an 05. The battery was 35 months old. never a hint of weakness. I cranked it to leave work, drove about 10 miles to a store, went in for about 10 minutes, came out and nothing. No lights, notthing but a clicking from the security module. A guy tried to give me a boost and the dash lights flickered, that was all. I went to Sam's bought a new battery and have not had a problem since. That was over 2 years ago.

One thing for sure, if he has never replaced that battery, he won't be wasting any money by doing so now.

Thanks again! After I posted I called him and told him your advice . . . advice I totally concur with. He returned to the truck for one last effort and managed to jump it off and someone followed him home.

Tomorrow he's going to check the battery. I told him he'll probably find it bad. I've had two batteries die in recent years myself the same way. Thanks a lot!

He can try charging the battery if he is somewhere he can borrow a charger. I drained my battery while installing my nav and got the same flickering lights Bluejay had, put the charger on for a few min then switched it over to "jump" mode and jumped the truck. Started up with hesitation, let it idle for about 30 min had haven't had any problems since.
