Any wiring guru's here?

I need to make a circuit, that both illuminates and flashes a single filament bulb. I have a switched hot wire(red) and a blinker wire(yellow). What type of switch/gate/relay would I add and where? I know there is a way to do this, just can't remember how. It's been a while since highschool electronics class. I seem to recall something about an "and/or" gate that might work.

I'm thinking a switch that when it finds power(yellow), it cuts the ground(black, obviously) would work great. It needs to be lit up at all times, but also be able to flash when needed.

I know this is crude, but this is basically what I'm working with:

Basically, in this drawing....when power is sent through the yellow wire, nothing is going to happen because it already has power coming through the red. I need some way to kick off the ground when the yellow signal becomes hot, which would turn the bulb off.

We are talking about 12v DC, not more than 5 amps.

Does this make any sense?

You just need a single pole double throw relay. Google it and you'll find a diagram.

You are making this a little too complicated with IC chips ( which might not handle the AMP draw you are talking about ).

Why not just use a SPDT relay ( the type that has both 87 & 87a ) to turn the ground on and off when the bulb should be flashing.

This is what I think joshmac4.6 was getting at.

I change the flash color to green, so it would show up better. The yellow in Visio is a bit washed out.

Perfect! Pin 87 is just open/unused? This would work great, I know I have a few of those laying around.

Yes, pin #87 is unused.

This would work perfectly for what you want. But two conditions must be met.
First off, the bulb MUST have 12 + power running to it at all times and be switched via a ground before you add this circuit.

Secondly the yellow (green in scullys diagram) must be an on/off pulse.

This should work perfectly for what you want in those conditions.
I have to ask though, what is this for.
There are only a few circuits that have a ground switched on/off on our ford trucks.
Dome and horn are the first that come to mind.

I believe the OP wants the flasher to blink a light that is already turned on. If the OP wants to blink the light at all times when the blinker is activated then that is an other issue. To the OP: Are you trying to blink a side marker?

.

JMC good though, I did not think of that.

If that is what he is doing, it is much easier.

This is how I did the LH Phillips side marker lamps on my ZG
