Ford's FAKE Oil Pressure Guage
 

Is there a way to convert the FAKE oil pressure guage into a true working dash board cluster oil pressure guage.

I have read in a lot of forums that the guage is nothing more than a idiot light that positions itself and does not move. TRUE.... It also indicated that a 10 ohm or 20 ohm resistor is in line with it to set the guage to its fixed 2/3 guage position.

Is there a way to install a true oil pressure sensor switch and have it actually work the dash guage..??? Anyone try it? I guess what I am actually asking will the dash guage support a true oil pressure sensor switch?

It just seems dumb (CHEAP) that the guage in my 07 F150 is a fake.............:(

The oil pressure gauge has been like this for quite some time.

The older MY ( 97-03 ) a actual oil pressure sensor could be installed, and it would work.

Looking at the 2006 EVTM, the instrument cluster has a direct link to the oil pressure switch, but I do not know if the new cluster will take a variable resistance, and change the dial on the gauge. Quite a few things changed in the cluster from 03 to 04 MYs, so I would guess this would not work.

The easiest work around would be to add the oil pressure sensor, and an actual oil pressure gauge to the truck, separate from the factory cluster.

so is the water gauge...once it gets to 250ish it goes from the middle to red line and beeps

i like mine fake. if it was changing constantly, it would scare the bujeesus out of me

You'd have to install a pre-'97 gauge head into your cluster & install a pre-'87 pressure sender into your engine.

'97-up gauges have the resistor built inside.

In other words, cannot be done.

Which is why Ford went from a real to an idiot gauge.

Dealers got tired of wasting time with too many owners' lack of misunderstanding about the function of real gauges.

take advantage of it...just swap the leads of the speedo and the oil guage..."but officer, I was only going 45MPH..." ;)

Officer: *looks at gauge cluster* "yes, and you're STILL going 45MPH..."

is this **** for real? i got a 2000 f150 4.6l... so does that mean my trucks the same F'ing way???

and greencrew its nice to have that knowledge. so you can know when its all runnin fine, when you got a problem, if your runnin low on oil, etc. i had just thought mine was working fine. i never woulda thought ford would cheaped out like that. thats something you'd expect from a bad brand like hyundai or toyota. thats very poor on fords part

It is an oil pressure gauge, not an oil level gauge.
If you are low enough on oil to drop below the pressure to trigger the light, you have already damaged the engine. Oil pressure will still register correctly when you are at the fill line on the dip stick. Even with an aftermarket oil gauge.
This would be a good reason why you check the oil every time you are fueling.
