Yep 3rd light was the first check. Come to find out the previous owner used a hypertech programmer to change tire size which deactivated the cruise. My local dealership got it turned back on.

2003 F150 Cruise control
I have a new (to me) 2003 F150 and performed the self test on the cruise control. I am receiving - 3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective. I have replaced the deactivator switch and through other searches checked voltage on Servo for pin 4 and pin 9. No voltage at all on pin 9. I replaced the brake light switch and not change. So two thing, what does the circuit defective refer to and could it be the servo? All fuses have been checked.
Thanks in advance,

Did you replace the harness when you replaced the deactivator switch? The recall replaced the original harness with one with an inline fuse.

Hello all,
I had intermittent problems with my cruise control for 2-3 months before it stopped working completely. Once in a while it would not turn on, and this became more frequent as time passed. Other times it would turn off by itself, sometimes several times within a few minutes. Eventually it stopped turning on altogether.
I just checked fuses 5 and 13 and both are good. Then I ran the self-test:
Press and hold the OFF button while turning ignition switch to run position.
Cruise light flashes once.
Within 1-2 seconds release the OFF button and press the ON button.
Cruise light flashes once.
Within 1-2 seconds release the OFF button and press the RESUME button.
Cruise light does NOT flash.
Within 1-2 seconds release the RESUME button and press the COAST button.
Cruise light does NOT flash.
Within 1-2 seconds release the COAST button and press the SET/ACCEL button.
Cruise light does NOT flash.
Since the On and Off switches are together on the left side, and the other three (Resume, Coast and Set/Accel) are together on the right side, do you think my problem is a set of bad switches on the right side ... or in the wiring connections to these switches? Or might something else create this problem?

I'm having Cruise control issues too.
Just replaced the deactivator. Ran the self-test.
Got one flash at the start and a flash after each push of the buttons in sequence. Servo also actuated, but right after the first button press. Not after the last button as described above.
Went out for a test. CRUISE light does not come on when I push "ON" and cruise isn't working.
Stumped.

I think I asked my question in the wrong thread, or in the wrong forum. I don't really know how to interpret my self-test results (other than to think my switches on the right side may be bad) ... so without a definitive response from someone who actually knows, this is the best I can conclude.

glc - yes, I replaced the short harness that came with the new deactivator. It went between the main harness (that previously attached to the old deactivator) and the new deactivator.
Note - I didn't mean to highjack this thread. Just seemed good to have the entire group discussion on the same subject all in one thread.
