windshield wiper won't turn off
 

I have a 1997 F-150 and the windshield wipers won't turn off while the engine is running. After speaking with my mechanic, we replaced the wiper motor and this worked for 24 hours and then after using the wipers and restarting the vehicle the wipers will not turn off. I have been told that it could be the governor or the turn signal device itself. Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with cleaning the MFS, some what common, albeit with slightly different symptoms.

Did the "Windshield Wiper Gremlin" thing and the wiper still run in the off position. They even ran when the wiring was pulled from the MFS. What do you recommend next. I've already replaced the motor. What is the governor and where is it located on the 1997 F-150? Thanks.

sounds to me like there is a short to power. use a DMM and check the wires thats where i would start

Alrighty here is My issue... Mine work fine, just will not shut off. I can turn the knob to the off position and they still continue to keep wiping. I can get out of the truck and push down on the wiper and they will stop. I did the knob cleaning and it is still doing the same thing. Sounds like this may be in the motor relay? They do not come on automatically I do have to turn them on. Any help would be wonderful. I have a 2000 F150XL 4.2L.

Time to remove the MFS, and test the switch.

Could be it is not clean, or has an issue after putting it back together.

Best to remove the MFS from the Steering wheel column, and test it.

After checking the test in the chart, turn the switch to intermittent then off, and make sure they are off. Repeat with Low and high settings.

Mine was doing this a bit and it turned out to be a few diodes in my alternator were blown. Probably not the case but just goes to show not to overlook or neglect anything. I'd replace the MFS myself.
