1997 FOB reprogram with factory alarm???

Dear all:

I have a 1997 F150 4.6 Triton V8 with the factory alarm installed at time of purchase when new. The FOB that came with it has a FCC code "GOH-M24" (I believe that's what it says...the FOB is highly worn after 10 years).

Make a long story short, it's the only FOB that still works. I still have the other original one, but it hasn't worked in years (yes, I replaced the battery). I don't know if the FOB is truly broken, or if maybe it's no longer in the truck's computer. Also, I have another Ford FOB from a 2000 Excursion. So, I want to attempt to reprogram all three FOBs I have in the hopes that at least two will work instead of just the one.

I have tried the OFF / ON instructions with the ignition switch 8 times and it does not cycle the locks. I have also tried the following directions:
Turn ign on, push and hold button under dash until horn churps three times. push and hold button on remote until horn churps once. should be it if it is a factory set up. Keep in mind thatyou can only program a max of 5 remotes. Then you have some special procedure to erase the old ones.
The "button" I used was the small red button that flashes when the alarm is armed. Nothing happened (no chirps). I held it for up to 30 seconds several times.

I am wondering if this has to do with the factory alarm system. So does anyone know the do-it-yourself way of reprogramming these...or am I up a creek due to the alarm???

hmmmmmmm. I have a 97-F-150 with factory alarm. The FOB I have doesn't have an Alarm button on it, I set my alarm by mashing the lock button twice and it sets the alarm and the alarm light on the dash comes on. Just lock, unlock and Panic. Beleive me I heard it and it does have an alarm. When I bought my truck used it only had on FOB so I ordered one off of E-Bay for about half of what the Ford Dealer wanted. I can't seem to find the instruction that came with it right now but, I'll keep on looking. From my research the 97-98 program one way and everything after programs diff. so I don't know it the 2000 will wotk with the 97, especially the Ex. FOB

Any programming instructions for the 1997 F150 would be great, because as mentioned, it's not even going into "program mode" with the instructions I have tried so far.

Thanks!

mine you had to find the emergency disarm button, not the status indicator light/button. if you do not know where it is, my emergency disarm button has 2 brown wires going to it. find the module in the truck and trace them to the button. hopefully this helps

Believe this or not I have 2 notebooks with instructions and rec. of everything I've done to my truck but for some strange reason I can't find the program instructions for the FOB. I'll keep looking. Sorry

Off Road Dude:

Is the emergency disarm button under the dash area inside the truck? Or is it outside under the hood?

Ironically, I've owned this truck for 10.5 years, and have never needed to use the emergency disarm. In fact, I noticed the flashing light "indicator" button you referred to pushes in as well and begins to flash. I've never used that feature either...Don't even know what it does. Some sort of valet feature, or what?

You will have to find a 97 to 99 FOB. Anything newer will not work. You have a dealer installed alarm. There is a silver button you will have to find and follow the instructions with. The "red" button is a valet button. These FOBs are VERY hard to find and you will need the whole FCC # to get the correct one. Let Ebay be your friend and search KIA also as these same systems were installed on them.

The '97 fob & programming is different from the 98 - 03.

Here the sequence from the '97 service manual.

Programming

NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time.

To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:

1. Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.

2. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN five times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.

3. Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.

4. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.

I think he has a dealer installed Code Alarm instead of the Ford factory. A posted picture of the FOB would confirm this. Programing this is different than from the factory and seems to go along with the intructions he has been following. He just needs to find the silver programing button.

it should be under the dash mounted in the kick panel or something. your are right it is called a valet switch/ status light it allows you to make your alarm not as touchy. in my case my alarm goes off wen you try to open a locked door or wen the truck is jiggled enough. if you press this at a certain time it should only allow the doors to lock wen u arm the alarm.

OK everyone, I finally had time to do this again. I FOUND the silver button, it was under the kick panel by the fuses (thanks off road dude)...I had not even seen it last time.

ON EDIT:

FIXED IT!!! Yeah. I followed these instructions and it worked. Ironically, it "chirped" for both of my OEM fobs, AND for the Excursion fob. However, after programming it, only the OEMs would work. Strange that it seemed to accept the Excursion fob, but didn't respond to it later.

Oh well. Thanks everyone for your help. Hopefully someone else will find this thread useful as well.

Is there a way to disable the alarm system so it does not work at all, I have a 1997 F150 and the alarm will go off for no reason at all. Lights flash and horn blows.

Is this the 97-98 perimeter alarm that you are talking about, or was there another alarm added by the dealer ( i.e Ford Gold or other mfgr ) ?
The perimeter alarm works off the door switch inputs, and I think one other input, but does not have a tilt or anything, where the Ford gold or other would have these options.
