HID's not always lighting right away
I have started to notice that when I turn on my headlights or foglights that the driver's side lights right away where as the passenger side doesn't fire unless I turn them off then on again. I haven't pulled the headlight out yet to check the wiring for a lose ground or something but I don't think that is the issue. Should I wire another power lead or something. It's more annoying if anything as I could be driving around with only one side on unless I pull up to a car to see the reflection in the vehicle in front.
Anyone have any ideas of how to solve it? |
A easy test ( if you have not done this already ) is to swap the ballasts left to right, to see if the problem follows the ballast.
What does the install look like ? The 2 major install types are 1. Ballast is connected to the battery via a fuse, and there is a trigger wire on the ballast connected to the low beam circuit on the truck. 2. The ballast are plugged into the truck's harness directly. |
This is when you turn your lights on right? I see you are in Canada, DRL?

SScully - ballast has a lead from the battery with an inline fuse but gets the signal to power from the stock harness which also connects to the OEM Bulb plug.
Yetti96- I have pulled the fuse for my driving lights so my lights only come on once it's dark with the Auto lights or if I manually turn them on. |
Since you have a Gryphon, have you checked your battery charging voltage? HIDs need very high voltage to "turn on" (about 23,000V I think?) and possibly a weak battery is not giving both ballasts quite enough current to provide this voltage.
But, once one is on and "warmed" up, I think it may restart very easily. This could increase the power available to the non-working side, allowing it to start too. Then again, a simpler answer is that you COULD have a weak ballast - Jack |
I might have missed you saying it, but does your HID setup have a relay?
