replacing headlight switch

Im planning on adding factory fog lights and I want to keep the stock look. Are the xlt's prewired for fogs. Do I just need to replace the headlamp switch with one that has the fog light option or is there more to it?

A search on the term fog light produces quite a few threads.

Sift through them, and find the 04+ MY trucks, all the threads in this forum indicate that the XLT does not have the complete wiring harness.

You can order a factory main headlamp switch with the fog option for controlling them.

From what I can recall, the circuit to operate the fog lamps is in the main headlamp connector.

If you take a look at the main headlamp connector, you should see a White w/ black stripe wire. This ( I recall, needs to be tested ) is wired to the fog lamp relay. You just need to remove the fog lamp relay, and verify with your DMM in the ohm setting ( should have < 10 ohms resistance ).

The pin in the fog lamp relay socket is pin #2

If this is verified, then you can either T-tap the wire on the back of the main headlamp switch or use a small male spade terminal in the fog lamp relay section to operate a DIY harness for the factory fog lamps with a relay.

The bulb connectors can be had at several places ( H10 9145 bulb connector ) to make up the ends for the fog lamps.

Not as easy as the 00-03 XLTs, that had the Lariat harness on them, Ford seems to have gone to 3 harness now instead of 2.

Good luck, let us know if you need anything else.

I added aftermarket driving lights and did what you want to do. I replaced the headlamp switch with one that had the foglight option in it. I had all the wiring to the fuse box and the relay for it also. I did not have the wiring from the fuse panel to the front of the truck. I made my own wire harness which was easy to do. I used my own relay and tapped into the foglamp wire coming out of the headlamp switch to trigger the relay. I don't recall which wire it was. I'm at work and don't have my wiring diagram book here. It works perfectly except the foglamp indicator on the switch doesn't lightup when the brights are activated.
