Wiring a GPS and Scanner...

Thought up this idea the other day but wanted to have some input on it before I went out and started. I've got a Garmin Nuvi and a Uniden BearCat scanner that I want to clean up and hide the wiring in my truck. The thing is I don't want to have to cut the cord for my Garmin so I can pull it and put it in the wife's car if needed. I was thinking of getting a universal cigarette lighter to wire direct to the battery(fused), along with an adapter to split it into 2 plugs to put behind my dash. Would I be ok in doing this? I know it sounds like it would work, but would it be safe? If it is, what size fuse should I use?

The garmin cord you don't want to cut. There is a voltage converter in there, to take it down to USB voltage levels.

The easy route it to T-Tap the back of the cigar plugs to add in the 2 sided power point outlets.

You can then hid the cords where you want them to be at.

This will use the 20A on the truck's fuse, so another fuse is not needed. Also the cord ends have the small glass fuses in the tips as well.
