$102 Power window switch ??!

The power window switch in my 1999 F150 Lariat for the drivers side window is bad. I called Ford Service and they quoted $102 for a replacement.

Is there somewhere else I can get a replacement switch without having to apply for a loan? ( Wow! Talk about pillaging and plundering ).

Larry.

WOW... That is outrageous, I just had to put one in my 05 (well at least I thought I did, turned out to be a broken wire instead, but thats another story). It only ran 54.20 after tax, or it had a list price of $63 so I would not think your switch would be that much extra. I would call another dealership sounds to me like they are trying to screw you... Good luck

Larry,

That is just nuts !!!

I checked oemfordparts.com and they want 78.82 ( plus shipping ) for the front left window switch for a 1999 MY switch.

Mechanical Catalog -> Electrical ->Body electrical -> Door -> Interior Trim

If you look at the description :
Window switch, f150, front, left, w/o super crew - f150 1997-03, heritage 2004 - F150 1997-03, HERITAGE 2004

With this in mind, I selected a 2003 F-150, and went the same way :
Mechanical Catalog -> Electrical ->Body electrical -> Door -> Interior Trim

It comes t $ 58.26.

Now the description says 1997 to 2003, but the listing shows 02-04
I selected 2001 :
Window switch, f150, front, left, w/o super crew - f150 1997-03, heritage 2004 - F150 1997-03, HERITAGE 2004
range : 99-01
MSRP : $101.98
OEM's price : $72.82

I checked the EVTM for 1999 & 2001, and they are the same diagram and switch configuration.

So with that said, it looks as if the 2003 switch should fit in a 1997, but I cannot confirm this ( the range on the part seems to be too narrow, and the description shows it is valid ).

Bad part, most places won't take back electrical items, and if it is a special order, there is a restocking fee, as well as return shipping.

If nothing else, order the correct MY switch from one of the online places, and screw your local dealer for wanting list for it. That is just stupid !

Good luck !

Steve

I tore the switch apart. The contact is worn down quite a bit but I cleaned it with contact cleaner and etched away the burnt spots. It is working again for now. I tore off the top circuit board which looks like it has two resisters and two leds to light the switches on it. I had to do that to get to the contacts underneath it.

I still would like to get a brand new part to replace it. The part has two switches and then has two harness plugs that plug into the switch piece.

My 05 had switch just about lock up, would not move either way. I believe all 4 windows and window down button are tied together as one switch. I paid about $ 48 .00 for mine fron Tasca Ford.Look on ebay , they sell switches , mirrorrs and other parts and are reasonable. Boyd

I've never had the switch fail, but the whole power window unit failed on the passenger side last year on my truck and last week the driver's side failed. $129 each from the dealership for a new unit.

I got the used part from ebay and my power windows are working again.

Thanks for the info on the dealer that is looking out for its customers. I will keep them in mind.
