Need help! HID's causing static in the radio.
 

Ok I installed HID fog lights and I did the high beam/fog light mod. Now when ever I turn on the fog lights I hear static in the speakers. The CD player and sirius radio work just fine, only the am/fm function. I undid the high beam/fog light mod and I'm still getting static. So it must be coming from the HID's. Has this happened to anyone? Any advice on what it can be? Thanks.

I have little to no static with my HID lights NO. But my Dads has it bad.

My auto ON light will not work now do yours?

To answer your question ScrewinAround the ballasts screw up AM/FM radio frequencies. There's really nothing you can do other then move the ballasts are far away as possible from the firewall. If you really wanted to fix the problem you could fab up some lead boxes. That would block out the signal.

Not trying to hijacking anything asking to find out if he is having the same problem as me. I dont see the harm.

I only installed the HID's in the fogs, not the headlights. So no, my autolight function is not affected.

NoLongerJeepin, I mounted the ballasts as far away from the fire wall as possible. They are mounted right under the headlights. I have gotton use to listening to am/fm during the day and SAT. and CD at night.

Well then your only option is to build the lead box or maybe try a different HID kit. Who did you buy the kit from?

I bought my kit from HID4U on ebay. Love the kit, hate the static...

5k McCulloch HID kit on a 2000 Expedition. Mounted the ballasts in the grille area, about 8 inches from the headlight. NO static heard on my end. It might have something to do with me having an Expedition and the antenna isn't up front like it is on the F150's.

I don't have any other clue why it would make static other than maybe being a lower quality product. Good luck with curing the static!
