97 f150 no dash, tail lights, or parking lights

Ok, knew dash lights did not work, but tonight I noticed no taillights of parking lights.I have headlights, and brake lights and turn signals. So I think this leaves a fuse out, just read that someone said the head light switch can cause this.Does anyone know this for a fact?

The problem may be caused by an open fuse F7 in the under-hood fuse box, the main headlight switch, or several other things, depending on the exact configuration of your truck.

Check the fuse first. If it is good, indicate whether your truck has auto-lamps and what the build date (from the door decal) is.

Ok, will check the fuse when wife gets to my work.My truck has fog lights with auto shut off lights.I hope that helps.Don't know build date yet till wife gets here.

Hi Steve, I checked the fuse and it is fine.Checked it with a volt meter. The built date is 4/97 from the door sticker. So any ideas on what I should look for next?

Check fuse F18 (5 Amp) in the under-dash fuse box. It should have one leg HOT whenever the headlight switch is in PARK or HEAD.

If it is good and there is one HOT leg as described, the next job will be to test the main light switch's dimmer function.

If neither leg is hot, the main light switch is probably bad or there is a faulty connection.

If you get to that point, I'll supply you with the needed diagrams.

Steve for some stupid reason either I tested the wrong fuse.I pulled fuses again and had a blown fuse.So thanks it is fixed.I checked fuse 9 not 7.I did got to the junk yard and got a new headlight switch, but did not need it.Could not find the exact one for my truck with fog and auto lights, but figured if it was bad it would work till I found the correct one.

Glad it's fixed.

Thanks for reporting back in with the solution.

i think i have this same problem now, but i did check fuses and they seemed to be good. i had other issues, but ran a splice to the bed from each ground in the tail lights and that fixed some of my problems, now i have this problem.

What does "i did check fuses and they seemed to be good." mean ?

When you use a meter on the pins on the back of the fuse do you have power on both sides ?

What are the other issues you had ? Sounds like a bad ground, but it also sounds like it did not fix all of the problems, only a band aid to something.

i checked the fuses by removing every single one and putting a 20 amp in its place each time on thursday.......

however, on saturday, i did this again and i did have a blown 15 amp fuse under the hood. replaced it and everything seems to be working now.

Next time, just use a meter or test light on the back of the fuse with it installed, it will tell you a lot more.

Just wanted to say I had the same issues: no tail lights, no parking lights, and no dash lights. Fuse 7 was blown, solved my problem
