Headlight Switch Removal

I cannot get the headlight switch out of the dash in my 97 F150.

I looked at the other threads, and pictures.

As usual, the Chilton's manual has some off the wall info that says to put the **** on upside down, go to off, then rotate "one full turn clockwise."

The threads and photos indicate you should not have to turn it that far.

The **** will only rotate back to on, in the upside down position. I don't have foglights, but the shaft does seem to move out a bit.

Nothing so far will release the switch.

Suggestions?

And how much is the switch I have to buy to replace the one I am going to destroy?

All I really want to do is change the dash light bulbs...

Thanks.

it was a pain in the butt to get out for me when i put my new gauges in, what i did was just get a flathead screw driver and eased my way in the side and gently pushed it out until i could get my finger in there and popped it out but becareful or the face of the switch might pop off..And there is a bolt behind the switch you will have to remove to get the dash out..hope that helps you out a little and good luck

You should have a tiny cutout on the bottom to slide a smaller screwdriver under the switch and pop it out a little at a time.

I added fogs and the Chilton's bit made no sense for me as I could not turn that switch, either.

Oh, if done as mentioned above, you destroy none of the switch. If you do, I have one laying around if the 03 version works in your truck.
