I found a few digital odometer threads. But mine is non-digital. Is mine purely mechanical with no circuit board and so on? How do I repair it? Thanks.
It works on and off. Yesterday was the first time I noticed it got stuck. I was on interstate and the odometer didn't budge. But as soon as I got on a local road, it started working again.
my guess would be something wrong with the speed sensor on the trans. Maybe the plastic gear stripped or the sensor itself is going bad. check the electrical connection on it first. it may be loose or dirty. it is on the left rear of the trans.
Get it fixed a week before you sell the truck and say that it happed the day before and get the 'free' milage. But then again there are more honest people out there than me...but at least I gave you an alternative.
Actually it is my work truck and I can use the mileage for business expense calculation. I WANT to repair it. I will check the connection tomorrow and get back to you folks with what I found. I hope it is a simple problem. Thanks.
you can also pull out the sender to check the plastic gear. it has a small bolt holding a clip what holds in the sender, i think its a 10mm . pull it out to see if the gear is ok and it turns. it may have a tooth or two missing causing a dead spot
Electrical connection was very dirty and oily. Used compressed air to blow dirt and oil from the contacts and vicinity. But I didn't remove the sender itself. I didn't want to lose lot of fluid while figuring out how to put it back. Thanks.
