ProLock 2 - How to Bypass??
ProLock 2 - How to Bypass??
My car has ProLock 2 anti-theft device installed on it. I have reason to believe that it has failed and won't let me start the vehicle. I thought if anyone would know how to work around this it would be someone from here. The problem is not with my F150, but with my wife's '93 Bonneville.
The car won't start, or rather it won't even turn over. It isnt the battery, as I tried to start with the power accesories (lights, etc) turned on, and there was no "dimming" when the key was turned to start - the terminals on the battery are clean. There is no clicking noise from the starter as it is trying to engage. The car was starting normally - no tell-tale symtoms prior to this. I have narrowed it down (I think) to: this Prolock device, or a neutral safety switch, or possibly the starter.
Prolock is now out of business. I have read online where this device is easy to bypass, but I can't find the procedure to do so. I figure this would be the least costly place to start, and also the most likely cause.
So if anyone can tell me how to do this I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

I ended up going to Best Buy of all places and one of the guys there knew exactly how to bypass the thing. Thank goodness. It was rather easy as I recall, as it kind of works like a fuse. If it is broken, the current from the ignition switch to the starter is broken and the car won't start.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
I had one of those #%@* ProLock things on my first Miata. It kept running down the tiny Miata battery, so I had to pull it.
It works by interrupting the wire going to the starter solenoid. To install one, you cut that wire and splice the ProLock between the cut ends. Therefore the most important part of de-installing a ProLock is to put these two cut ends back together again.
I did a writeup on this over at the Miata.net forum, maybe you want to go read about it over there: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=60471
