2013 F150 fuel gauge reads incorrectly

On my 2013 F150 the fuel gauge will only read 3/4 tank when you fill it up. Any idea what's causing this?

It could be a variety of things. I know sometimes if I ran really low, then filled up, it would do this.

But it would correct it self after a day or two.

If I recall correctly, it's only done it once on my F150.

Back when I had my '03 Escape, and a '02 Windstar, it would do this more frequently. But time would correct it.

I moved this into the Electrical section, because I think you may get more help here.

Has it always read low when the tank is full or is this something that's just started? If it's a new problem, I'd suspect faulty electrical connections somewhere. But I haven't a clue where you would start looking. I suppose a dealership would try a new gauge as a first step, which would either eliminate the gauge itself as the problem or fix it. I have no idea how the fule sensor in the tank works, but that would also be a likely source of the problem.

When you drive the truck, does the fuel gauge stay at the 3/4 mark for a long time (I'm guessing maybe 150 miles) before beginning to drop? And, when the gauge reads, say, about 1/4, does it seem to take 3/4 tank capacity to fill it back up?

This might be something you can just live with, if you understand how to interpret it.

It's only been doing this about 2 months. I've been told it might be the fuel pressure sensor.

I wouldn't think fuel "pressure" sensor, but the sensor in the tank that signals level of fuel could certainly be faulty.

Did you fix it

My 2013 f150 is doing the same. Fill up reads 3/4. 1/2 tank, 1/4 tank, empty are accurate.

Been that way for about 6 month. 1 month ago I got an error code indicating my canister purge valve was bad. Replaced it, error went away and all of the sudden fuel guage started reading right again. 2 fill ups later and I'm back to the 3/4 after fill up

Check the electrical connections for corrosion.

Hello! Send us a private message with your F-150’s VIN and name & location of dealership. I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this fuel gauge concern. Thanks!
