removing dashboard

I have to remove the dash of my 99 XLT for some custom work. The thing is I am afraid I might trigger the airbags to pop. Is there a proceedure or thing to disconnect for me to ensure that the airbags do not pop.

Just be sure to disconnect the battery first, then wait about 5 minutes. There is a back-up power supply for the airbags in case an accident kills the power circuit before the bags deploy, but its only good for a few seconds.

To deplete the airbag backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery and wait one minute. If you carry a live air bag make sure the bag and trim cover are pointed away from your body. if it pops it will hurt less.
