Starter won't engage when key is turned on.

 When I turn the ignition key on, I get a single click comming from the Driver's side kick plate. All the accessories (instrument pannel lights) work except the radio. I can get the starter to 'kick on' and start the truck by using a Quarter between the two large Posts at the Starter Relay (once I've disconnected the small grounding wire?) inside the engin compartment. Once I do that, I guess it resets
some 'Relay?' and it works fine for awhile.
It's been very hot here (102 average).
Does anyony have an idea which part is failing? oh yea, the radio also starts working
again.....

Sounds more like a bad battery cable connection. Depending on the age of your battery, that may also be the problem, or at least a part of it. You should take your truck to Auto Zone or the such and have them do a starting / charging system test. That will pin-point the problem.

i would get a volt meter and check the power at the relay to see the drop across it, another thing is turn the light on while trying to start it if the go out u prolly have a dead cell in it. if all fails craw under and put the meter directally on the starter wire, if ever thing checks ok between 11-12.5 volts then it prolly is the starter
