mike ? for you
mike ? for you
jason here,
i know i have talked to you about this in the past, but figured i would ask you again..
i'm sure by now you know all of my current mods. as a matter of fact i have my superchip in route to you guys now, for a reburn..
and have already faxed you my custom program sheets..
with my current mods now, (airforce one, flowmaster 40 series original flows catback, edelbrock headers, fal#270 dual electric fans, superchip, and soon to be when i get them in from you guys walbro 190/lph fuel pump, ford 24# inj) do i need to lower my thermostat?
i have read several posts here where guys say they have lowered theirs to a 160 or 170 and noticed a performance difference.
i could swear you told me before that i did not need to lower my stock 195.
is the superchip program bumping the timing up enough where i would benefit from this??
just curious, and if i had any detonation how would i know??
thanks again mike as always for your time in advance!!
let me know..
also i'm not sure if you heard or not yet from anita, but i think i may have wrote the wrong rma# on my superchip package i am sending back to you guys for a reburn. i wrote the # 1305 that i could swear you told me last week was my # after i ordered the fuel pump and injectors from you, but anita told me that the correct rma# was 1231. if this is the case, please tell me that you made a mental note of this and that my superchip will not get lost in the mix..
it's just that i have had bad luck in the past with other vendors, and want to make sure that this transaction goes through ok!!
please let me know, and again thank you,
jason green..

Hi Jason,
First, don't worry about your RMA #, everything will be fine on this end, so you can relax about that.
Next, as to the thermostat, no, you do not have to change it, and if you do change it, whatever you do, PLEASE never go below 180 degrees. Those 160-degree t-stats should not be used on computer-controlled vehicles driven on the street.
Your factory t-stat is 192 degrees, and is just fine. However, if you drag race the truck, or just want it to tun a bit cooler, you can drop in a 180 degree unit. Just make sure that the engine coolant temps can get into the 200-210 degree range where highest power is made.
Detonation is sometimes audible, and can sound like marbles rattling in a coffee can in older vehiclers, but is a bit muted in these newer vehicles by comparison, as there is so much insulation and other materials between you in the cabin and the motor. You could always try install an active knock monitor to light up a light in the cabin to let you know when it's detonating.
Talk to you soon!
