Chips Problems!
Chip Problems! (Mike??)
I have a 99' F-150 Supercab Flareside and I had installed a chip acouple months ago, I sent my trucks computer off to SuperChips to install it themselves. Last Friday on my way home from work I noticed my truck hesitating when shifting from first to second. I then Tried to shift to third and new that something was wrong and that I wasn't going to make it home.
I started making my way to the right lane and as I was entering the right lane to pull over to the side of the road, My truck shut off and locked up on me. I lost control of steering and everything. I made it to the side of the road without any bumps, after I made it to the edge of the road I tried to start my truck back up, that's when I got worried, All my warning lights lit up and my "theft" light started going crazy, so I thought of what it could be, then after a few minutes I went to the computer and took out the computer chip, crossed my fingers and tried to start my truck up again. Well, it worked, I called superchips and they said they would fix it, but I was wondering if I should get that one fixed or request a new one!?
Do you think this caused any damage to my trucks computer or any other damage to my truck?
Plus my ABS light comes on a couple minutes after starting up my truck and driving, it stays on all the time after that until I shut off my truck but in less then five minutes, it'll come back on.
If anyone has any info for me or advice I would really appreciate it!!

It may not help but last weekend my ABS light came on. Just after dropping the boat off, I pulled out and for ther first time in 45k miles, it hesitated almost like it died for a second. I suspected it was a sensor at that point and the ABS remained on at that point. I was also about to have the brakes done (they were past due) so I had assumed it had something to do with that until the hesitation.
They found the speed sensor was bad so since it was in I let them replace it. Not one problem since then. It's running smooth and strong as ever. OPh and stops better with new brakes all around!

Hi Infamous,
What needs to be done is proper diganosis, plain & simple, just let Superchips do their job. You're already dealing with who you should be dealing with, the manufacturer.
In case you don't realize this already, nobody else is going to know more about your PCM and the Superchip than Superchips, the manufacturer. That being the case, it's a waste of time trying to second guess them, so save yourself the stress & just let the manufacturer do whatever needs to be done to diagnose the actual problem.
Briefly...........................
No, your PCM is not going to be damaged by the Superchip module. Your vehicle is running fine according to you, it started right up and has been running fine ever since you pulled the chip. That doesn't even mean there is a problem with the Superchip either, it just means that the PCM was not able to properly communicate with the Superchip, and so once you removed it the Ford PCM turned back on that bank of it's internal memory & is now running on the original factory program.
Though it is possible to have a failure of the Superchip module itself, which could cause those symptoms (just as could a connection problem, etc.), that is extremely rare, our failure rate on the Superchip here at Performance is less than 1/10th of 1 percent, not even statistically significant. But if the Superchip needs to be replaced, don't worry, they'll replace it. There isn't much you can do to actually "repair" the hardware of a Superchip module, if it actually goes bad it's just replaced.
Just relax & let Superchips do their job is what you need to do at this point. Your vehicle isn't disabled, it's running fine, so don't waste time worrying about problems that don't exist, just let the manufacturer do their job. Sometimes diagnosis takes a number of steps to find the actual problem, so whatever it takes, just do it & let the pros take care of this, you couldn't be in better hands than you are already with Superchips.
