A noticable difference???/
I have a 97' F-150 4.2 5 speed. It has 83,700 miles on it. Would a chip be worth while? I take torque over speed anytime. Is there a "noticable" difference with a chip as far as tourqe goes? and a truck with that many miles on it be worth it?
Hi Emissions,
Optimizing the powertrain programming is always worth it, and is safe as long as the engine is basically healthy and does not use oil and all the maint. is done, etc. In those situations sure, you can start using the Superchip tuning at 80K miles. I wouldn't do that at 150K miles, but up to about 100-120K, as long as the motor is healthy and the vehicle properly cared for, sure, you can do it.
Don't ecpoect the Superchip tuning to suddenly turn that 2-ton+ V-6 truck into a "performer," but it definitely is thw single best bang for the buck performance improvement you can do to that vehicle, as nothing else will give you a 10%-12% power gain that easily and inexpensively.
The 4.2 V-6 picks up a nice 10%-12% power gain, the torque comes up by roughly 31 lbs./ft. The Superchip tuning also fixes the problem of the 4.2 V-6 being terribly weak below 2500 rpm, the V-6 owners love the Superchip just like the V-8 owners do.
Give us a call if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail,
