Superchip requires a jumper change?
I have a buddy at work that bought a Superchip and couldn't get it to work. He sez he contacted Superchip directly and was told that the chip isn't compatible with his engine ('99 5.4L Code ZZT3) unless he undoes some jumper that the factory installed on newer F150s. He was also told that since it's been more than 30 days that he can't have the chip reburnt and he'll have to eat it.
This all sounds contrary to what I've read on this site. I told him to work through Mike but he got a "package deal" on a chip and FIPK somewhere else. Anybody heard anything about what I'm talking about?
My next mod was going to be the Superchip and my buddy was my guinea pig - any advice?

Hi yean!
Theres a tech. answer which ill leave to others...so just for simple staters till you get more info. also lots posted here.
No start caused by imporper cleaning.
Superchip requires code # of PCM. There are different codes.
No start...on a few 99 models...that was the jumper connection inside PCM...requires a little solder.
Seems to me your friend would have got that corrected shortly after the no start? I had a no start..but was in that very small group with the PCM..jumper connection. I had schip do fix..with guidance and excellent service from MikeT.
Good luck...OT

Hi Yean,
Sounds like your "buddy" should have picked a better vendor to work with, as the problem is not with the Superchip, the problem is with his *vehicle*, and is easy to solve. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he also contacted us by email with this same story, about a week ago.
By the way, there are hundreds upon hundreds of 1999 ZZT3-code 5.4 F-150's running the Superchip, the vast majority of who have no such problems, and it is not in any way true that the Superchip is not "compatible" with your friends engine, not by a long shot.
Not all ZZT3 PCM's have that problem, only a tiny fraction of them do, maybe 1 in 1000, and this problem cannot be predicted by computer code. It's completely random, very rare, and easy to fix. There are a few of the 99 F-150's that have this problem with 2 small jumpers needing to be closed. All it takes a a 2 drops of solder, it's very simple to take care of.
If his vendor won't help him, then we can help him get up & running for a support fee.

Thanks for the good poop guys! Mike, I knew you'd be THE MAN ... you have a nice history of great responses! I know that I'm not gonna make the same mistake as my buddy by going to anyone else for the chip. As soon as I collect some scratch, I'll be giving TroyerPerformance an order for mine.
Thanks again guys!
Thanks again guys!
Hi Yean,
That's very kind of you, & we appreciate it, we'd be honored to serve you.
We would really like to see your friend get up & running so he can enjoy his Superchip, as these things can always be solved. If he just needs instructions on how to have those jumpers closed locally, we can send him that info and there isn't any charge for that, there would only be a support fee if we do this work for him. So if he just needs someone to talk to about this to go over the exact details of what he needs to do, he can give us a call, we don't want him to be "stuck."
His selling dealer should also be able to provide that information right away, but if they can't for any reason, tell him to give us a call, as we may be able to provide enough free help (like the jumper instructions, etc.) for him to get up & running. He may well know all of this by now already, but just in case, he can always call us for those instructions, etc. Just a thought, & please tell him good luck from us.
