Superchip address pinging?
Superchip address pinging?
I imagine the Superchip modifies the timing curve somewhat. If a 5.4L is having slight pinging problems can a Superchip help?
Thanks, leaning toward the purchase.

Hi Al,
The Superchip is a performance part first and foremost, and is going to require the use of premium gasoline. Doing that may cure your detonation, and it may not, it all depends on *why* it's pinging.
So the first thing you need to do is to find out *why* it's pinging, which could be any number of reasons, depending on the age of the vehicle & it's mileage, carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, head gasket leaking, poor fuel qualty, clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, etc., there are any number of variables in that equation. Usually it's just a simple matter of poor quality fuel in the tank, and given that you are in Washington state, that would be my first suspicion.
If you're using cheap gas, or using any no-name or off-brand fuels, or using something like Exxon, BINGO! There's an obvious problem, as those are basically all poor quality fuels most of the time, with lower energy content and prone to cause detonation more than better fuels.
Generally speaking, Chevron is among the best available fuels you'll find out West, though we have seen a couple of Chevron stations in Washington state carrying that were pumping pure crappola thru the pumps, usually Chevron does about the best job in terms of octane & energy content. Amoco is generally a fine fuel, as is Texaco, but out West, we generally see Chevron doing a great job.
If you'd like to give us a call, we can go over this with you in more detail, we maybe able to determine what the cause of your detonation is, and then we can let you know if that is something the Superchip will help, that would be the best thing to do at this point.
Good luck & give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over this in more detail!

Superchip address pinging
Thanks again Mike for all the info. The vehicle in question is a 2000 F150 Supercab 4x4 5.4L with 31K on the ody. I think you are right, I may just call you and go over all of what I've been through so far. I am thinking it's due to carbon buildup but again there are some things I've already done maintenance-wise to try and rectify this situation.
Looking forward to chatting with you.
Al
