chip pullout
chip pullout
I pulled out my chip two days ago for the first time. I been using the chip at least a little over a month. I know this might sound kind of funny but my truck seems to run better without the chip. That saddens me....All i have is a AF1 mod. Its seems like I have better pickup and better shifting in the tranny without the chip. I thought the superchip was to better this. When I had the superchip on it felt like i was having tranny problems. I think i am doing something wrong. I really want to use this chip. But i want to use this chip to the fulleset. I am going to install the chip again within a week. But is there something I should check before installing the chip again. I thought I cleaned the connectors pretty good. If you have any ideas please help. BTW i have a HD2001.. thanks guys...
correct computer code?
Well the chip either works or it doesn't. If you are feeling the tranny shift differently I would think that the chip is installed correctly and is working. However are you sure that the code of your computer matches the code that was programmed into the chip? I am not sure what mixing codes would do. Also make sure that you are running the correct octane for you application. Usually 92 or equivalent.
Also remember that smoother shifts are not necessarily better shifts. Normally it takes a while for the transmission to shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd etc, but during that time there is more wear and tear on your transmission. It feels better but is not better for your transmission.

Hi mrlucio,
What you really need to do right now is to call whoever you got your Superchip from for proper Tech Support. Nobody here is going to be able to support that product or tell you what's wrong as well as your vendor, that's how to get Tech Support.
With the use of screen names here we don't know who you are, so we wouldn't know at this moment for example, if you might have even purchased it from us here at Performance, or I'd call you right now to see what's up. In any case, don't torture yourself any more guessing at this, what you need to do *first* and always, anytime you think you have any problem related to the Superchip is to call your vendor.
Briefly......................
It is simply not possible for a properly functioning code-matched & correctly installed Superchip to do anything but improve your powertrain's power & shift characteristics. And, nobody in their right mind would ever say that the Superchip made any of that worse, so it sounds like you do have something out of the ordinary going on here. And that should be discussed in some detail with you, to troubleshoot this.
For example sure, it's very easily possible for you to not have removed all of the conformal coating and that be the cause, where the vehicle will still start up and run, but not run correctly, or normally, or not run better. Anytime you have any kind of connection-related issue, those kinds of wierd symptoms are possible. So this *could* be an installation issue. Or, it could also be a matter of your vehicle having had it's PCM (your powertrain computer) reflashed by a dealership at some point, and so your Superchip would not be the exact same code as your vehicle's actual computer code is. Usually that results in a no-start in most cases, but every once in awhile we'll see a couple of software revisions that are close enough to allow a vehicle to start and run, but not run well, or better, like it should with the Superchip.
There are any number of possibilities here, and that cannot be diagnosed here except by guess and luck (not very productive in most cases), so what you need to do is to call your vendor and have them help you work thru this.
Last, we're assuming that you are using nothing but top-quality premium gas of at least 91 or higher octane, as the Superchip requires that. Don't use any low octane gas, no offbrands or no-name fuels, no Exxon either, etc. Use only the best premium gas, like a Texaco, Amoco, Chevron works well out West, etc. Using a lower quality fuel than is required can cause a number of different symptoms & problems.
Contact your vendor, please, and if that is us, then please give us a call when you can, ok? If you got it somewhre else and have run into a blank wall with your vendor, or if you got it used, you can still give us a call & we'll at least give you some suggestions, ask you some questions to see if we can determine what's going on with some basic troubleshooting, etc., we want to see you up and running and enjoying your Superchip.
Good luck!
