MikeT.
Hi MikeT.
Hope you had a good time at rally and all went well.
Perhaps when you get caught up etc...if you could read my recent posts...Geez whats next and Thoughts/opionions.
Flipchip...not clearing PCM when changing programs...also..in 87 mode using 91+oct.
If you (unknowingly) switch flipchip with engine running...what happens. After i found problem I did clear/flip the recommended way..so now need alittle more mileage..schip appears to be ok, i assume no damage was done?
Thanks....OT

Mike my man...you are fast. Think maybe you were answering when i was asking?
I understand not required to clear PCM first..can just flip. Thats just the way ive always done it.
From your reply....i assume no damage was done to chip. Engine running ok etc...was just really curious.
Thanks again....OT

Hi OT,
The Rally was a long & tiring affair for us, but then, it always is for the event organizer, of course! It was a blast, other than a flat tire in one of our vehicles and then a problem with some bad race gas in the Lightning. Tom (wittom) lent a hand to help me change the flat tire on soft ground just on the side of a very busy highway (Rt. 460, & thank you Tom!!), and also lowered his ET at the track from a 15.86 all the way down to 15.19 with a hotter program & some changes in technique, etc. Just about everyone was able to lower their early ET's (except us, we got a bad hit of race gas combined with 98% humidity, and the plugs just couldn't cope), and a great time was had by all. Then of course the rains came again, and put an end to the Test & Tune session.
I have to confess that between the rain for a second year in a row, the flat tire when we were already running late with people waiting on us happening at a particularly bad place, and then the dose of sub-par race gas & 98% humidity causing us to run at least a half-second slower ET than we should have, I was not a happy camper. But being able to meet & hang out with all of the wonderful people there more than made up for it, as it always, does, it's our favorite event of the year, & thanks to everyone who came, especially those who came from such long distances as Tom, who drove down from MA, & Andthemsometoo, who drove down with hre family from MI, etc. Each year we are blessed with such nice people & their friendly faces, it's an honor to have them attend as they do, thank you, one & all!
On to your question..............
Usually if you flip the switch while the engine is running, you might have the engine stumble for a second, or even stall perhaps, that is possible when you interrupt the signal stream of a device running in real time & controlling intricate hardware like that, so that's why we say not to do that.
In terms of actually *damaging* anything from flipping the switch while driving, we really haven't tested specifically for that, so I suppose the safe answer would be that it's an outside possibility, though not likely for actual damage to occur. Usually what we've seen is just a hiccup or a stall when that happens, so I don't think you have anything to worry about just from an accidental flipping of the switch while it's running.
Have fun!
