Question Chips or Programmers?

I was looking at Jet Chips and Hypertech power programmers for my '99 f150 ... any suggestions as to which one is better? My truck is an 4.6L auto. If i get a chip or programmer, do i have to buy a new thermostat ie. are there any ping/knocking problems people have had? I live in CA and the best gas we have is this 91 oct crud.
any suggesstion would be appreciated. thanks.

Hi Welcome!

Just keep reading and searching old threads. There has been alot posted on your questions. It can/does get technical.

Im using a schip flipchip 87/93oct. However here in Nv...same as Ca. our hightest pump oct. is 91. (in my local area)

So far ive had no pinging or problems with 91. For me I didnt notice a major chg. between 91/92...but technically as i recall you loose a slight amount of hp using 91? Didnt have to change thermostat with schip. If that was a requirement i would not have done it.

Some guys here have expermineted...tried various chips/programmers/tstat etc.

Good luck...OT

HI Phadraig,

Actually, you'll be much better off and spend less money as well using the Superchip.

Neither Jet nor Hypertech make performance programs specirfclaly to match each individual vehicle as the Superchip does, so what you will get with Jet or Hypertech is a program compromised to run on all similar vehicles.

Jet, Hypertech & most others also only tune the engine for more power during open loop operation, which is only at extremely heavy to wide-open throttle! The rest of the time they don't make *any* improvement to engine power, so they don't help when towing or in normal driving, etc., only when you're drivign the vehicle very hard.

The Superchip tunes your engine for maximum horsepower and torque *all* the time, at any throttle position or rpm you will have more power, so it helps not only when you're driving it hard, but when you're towing, or just driving to work, etc., the Superchip is always delivering more power.

The Superchip is the only powertrain programming product that tunes each vehicle exactly according to the precise software revision in it's ECU, that tunes the engine for maximum horsepower and torque at any throttle position, and that is still 50-state emissions certified, no other chipmaker offers all of that, or offers as much power gain and performance enhancement as the Superchip does.

You might want to spend some time reading thru these threads in this section, as you will quickly see that almost everyone prefers the Superchip. In fact, every time there has been a comparison made where someone used both the Jet chip or the Hypertech Programmer *and* the Superchip on the same vehicle to make a direct comparison, the Superchip has always been preferred, hands down. It simply does more for your vehicle's performance.

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please give us a call at our number listed below, we'll be happy to go over this with you, so you can make your decision from a fully informed position.

Best of luck whatever you decide!
