Chip question
Chip question
I recently helped my friend install a lower pulley and Superchip in his 02 HD. Initially, the truck responded extremely well, but after several days of driving, the truck started doing strange things in first gear--actually stays in gear longer, and the truck acts like it wants to stall.
We pulled the chip out and cleaned the computer prongs again. Same thing! The truck runs like a banshee, and then it starts its first gear querks. Could the computer prongs still be dirty?? I would think if they were, then the truck would act strange immediately.

Hi Outnumbered,
Yes, it could be that the connector needs to be cleaned better, as that is the problem over 98% of the time when either a no-start or other symptoms are involved.
Just in case you may not know this, not just the contacts have to be cleaned on that connector, the *entire connector* has to be cleaned of *all* conformal coating, and on both sides as well as the edges. Remove the ECU from the vehicle and remove both top and bottom covers from the ECU, so you will ahve access to clean the connector. We describe exactly how to do this in detail including thorough visual references in our Performance Products documentation, which is sent with every Superchip we ship here at Performance.
You need to remove 100% of the conformal coating from every bit of surface area on both sides of that connector that are covered by the slot on the Superchip when the Superchip is pushed onto that connector, not just the contacts. We go over exactly how to do that in our documentation, so the first thing I would do is to go back and read over the section titled "What to do in the Event of a No-Start & How to Get Technical Support."
Give us a call if you continue to have problems, we want you up & running of course, so we'll be happy to help!
