SuperChip Question?

If I have my dealer reprogram the ecm to accommodate a non oem tire size will the SuperChip overwrite this change when I install it?

My dealership told me they couldn't reprogram the computer. Just curious, did your say they could?

randyb, yes they said they could. I have a 02 F-150 Supercrew with a 4.6. The service guy said they would charge me for an hour of labor, which at my dealer is $63.00.

Hello Gentlemen,

Yes, when you install the Superchip, your ECU will run off the Superchip's instructions, so you will have to have the speedo corrected in the Superchip as well.

In most cases, the dealership can only change tire size or gear ratio in the powertrain program to one that was originally available (either standard or as an option, etc.) from the factory on that year & model of vehicle, otherwise, they usually can't do it.

Good luck, & give us a shout if we can help!

Since your veh is a 97 you can change the VSS (speedometer gear) in the tranny tailshaft housing. Is there another reason other than tire size? I went to 4.10's with a super chip already installed and that is all I needed to do to make things right. It is a simple task and the dealer has up to 21 tooth gears. You will need to tell them which one as there are numerous possibilities and I doubt the parts guy will will know how to calculate it. If you are stuck send me an e-mail.

Opps

Read your last thread. Looks like you got a new truck. Congradulations. As mike says it needs to be done through the computer or chip. Sorry about that.

Hi F150/Paul,

As your dealer will quickly discover if you have them actually try to do that, you have no speedo gear in any 1999 F-150 to change, 1998 was the last model year to have a reduction gear (speedo gear) in the tailshaft of the transmission.
