Question for Mike

I bought a superchip a few years ago for my 97' 4.6 and am VERY happy with it, problem is now i'm buying a blue KR with a 5.4 and was wondering can this be re-programmed? or do i need a new one for the 5.4, also whats the specs on the 02' 5.4 chip? Thanks for your time, Cal

Hi Cal,

Great to hear from you again!

Sure, that Superchip can be reprogrammed for that new F-150, and that's what I'd do, as that costs much less than buying another new Superchip.

Just give us a shout at our number listed below when you want to have this taken care of, & we'll make the arrangements to take care of that for you. It's also a good idea to have us check to make sure we have the performance program already available for your new 2002 F-150's computer code, so if you can take a quick look at that (same place as your other F-150, open the front passenger door, look near the door hinges, sticker will have 3 letters & 1 number, WUQ2, UEV2, etc.) and let us know what you find.

We have many of the new 2002 codes already done for the F-150 of course, so we probably do have yours, but just as soon as I say that Murphy's Law will bite us both, so let's make sure before you send it in for reprogramming.

Congratulations on this next new F-150!

Thanks, I just ordered the lund cap and the wood kit for it, next week the hood from keystone (I'm going with the ram air hood, keeping the stock box with the mod for the hood connection and a K&N) now if I could get one of the 5.4 guys to give me an Idea whats best as far as catback pipe dia. (single in, dual out) i'd be all set. if you can't tell from the abundance of unnessary info, Im excited, been saving for awhile and finally am getting "the one I want" instead of the one I need, i'll get all the info and give you a call in a week or two, Thanks,Cal

PS The '97 still looks and runs as good as new, 5 years not even a flat tire, go figuire

Hi Cal,

Actually we can help you more than you know with your exhaust questions as well, as it's not just pipe diameter, but it's who's doing the best flow engineering that counts. The pipe diameter doesn't mean that much all by itself, virtually all aftermarket cat-back systems are single systems with 3" tubing, whether it's for the 4.6, 5.4 or the V-10 gas motor in a Super Duty. The results among the various 3" systems vary *wildly*.

Also, I would not do a Single in Dual out unless you're ready to lose some low-end torque. Just give us a call and we can go over all of this and more with you in detail, and I think you'll find that will help greatly in your decision making process.

Good luck!

Well I have a good friend who has a local shop and handles Fullboar exhaust products (did my 97 4.6) so I guess I need a recommendation on configuration so as not to lose too much torque, I dont race but like the sound and added power/fuel savings. I wouldnt buy a system when we can build one and mainly commute or pull a 4 sled trailer. I've read some of the guys just replacing the stock muffler for better flow, heard anything about that?? Thanks, Cal

Hi Cal,

Have we "heard anything about that?"

Yes, we have extensive experience specifically in F-150 exhaust changes of virtually any type. We've literally done years of exhaust testing, formal and informal, at the race track and on the street in the F-150 platform. A muffler change is rather ineffective in terms of actual power gains in the F-150. You may pick up 5 HP or so with a muffler change, versus gaining over 20 horsepower and *no* torque loss in a properly engineered cat-back exhaust system.

This is the Computer Chips section, so we need to keep it along those lines. As I said in my last response, if you want to go over the exhaust on the F-150, feel free to give us a call, our contact info is below.
