adding a superchip before other mods

I just purchased a 1999 xlt supercab 4.6 v-8..and im going to be doing the basic 3 mods on it.....what order should i get them in...if i get the chip first and then the exhaust and intake mods will this adversely affect the chip?will it need to be reprogrammed or will it adjust itslef to the other mods?any help is greatly appreciated.

randal9-

The "standard" Superchip will work with or without those 2 other mods and in any order.

Hi Randal9,

Intake modifications such as the typical airbox elimination kit, like an Air Force One, Airaid, K&N's FIPK kit, etc. do not cause a need for any custom programming in the Superchip. However, any type of "ram air" intake kit *will* cause a need for custom programming due to leaning out the motor more and more the faster the vehicle goes; we advise not using any kind of true "ram air" intake unless data logging has been done to determine just how much the MAF voltage signal is thrown off by the ram air kit.

Exhaust modifications like a typical cat-back exhaust system do not require any custom programming either; however, if you do something like headers in addition to an intake and an exhaust, then you will need custom programming as the engine will go too lean. Also, if you do either an "H-pipe" or an "X-pipe" (which are typically used in dual exhaust systems to balance the exhaust phasing of the 2 cylinder banks and to promote increased scavenging) you will also need custom programming, again, due to a lean condition caused by the increased scavenging from the H or X pipe.

If you would like to go over any of this in more detail, or perhaps get some advice as to which intakes & exhaust systems are actually making the best power gains, which ones are made of the best materials, etc. please feel free to give us a call.

We handle all of those kinds of parts as well, so if you'd like to do a package deal of some kind, or do things one at a time, we can work out a nice upgrade path for you that is affordable and maximizes your bang for the buck.

Good luck with your truck,

I am going with the same mods on my 99 XLT 4X4 5.4l , I have a Vortex 1 into 2 exhaust, and I will have my superchip and K&N filter charger tomorrow, then we plan to put it on the dyno to see what it's putting out for hp. my only problem is warranty, I'm not sure if ford will allow these mods??

Good information.. I saw your message about a pakage deal and I was wondering around what price range could that cost to get the basic 3 mod combo.. I have a 2001 f150 v8 5.4 ...

Also I know this topic has crossed the board a number of times, but I think I ran across the infamous rough idle problem, It only happend to me one time though. I had started my car and was sitting outside of it for a while when it was running and heard it reving up n down like mad. If it hasn't happend at all since then.(about 2 weeks ago) So should I be realy concernd?? I have 25k miles on it, and I just got it about a little over a month ago.

p.s. I live in Cali and have been using the 91 octane.

Hi Chaka01,

Well, I'd really have to talk with you over the phone to have a real chance at determineing why your idle acted like that, so please feel free to call us anytime, our contact info is below.

It could be an ECU problem and it went into limp-home mode, as that will cause a constant rythmic fluctuation in idle speed up and down, or, it could be a simple IAC (idle air control) issue, or any of a number of things.

With regard to the pricing for the Top 3 mods combo, which is our Stage 1 kit by the way (Superchip, Air Force One intake and Magnaflow exhaust), I have to apologize, as that can't be quoted here on the boards due to the policies of F-150 Online, which prohibit the discussion of pricing here on the message boards. That is done so as to keep these message boards free of what is considered blatant commercial content. However, we're of course more than happy to provide that info, if you wouldn't mind shooting us an email or even giving us a call if you prefer, we'll get you those numbers as well. Thanks in advance for your understanding on that.

Good luck with your truck & hope to speak with you soon!

Thanks for the info.. Yeah I will probably give you a call in the near future, things are kinda hectic here at work for me so I will have to wait till that slows down first. Sorry about asking about the price on here, I was pretty sure you couldnt quote a direct price, and im sure your sick of explaining it every time people ask. I was more or less just thinking of rough ball park range, but I guess there are to many variables for it to even be worth a rough estimate. Thanks again, and I will get back to you

Hi Chaka_01,

A lot of things get repeated around here, it's the nature of the beast with a site like this that has so many new people coming on board everyday, so don't give that a thought, no problem.

You can always just shoot us a quick email for that info if you like, it's quick & easy right from here, you can just click on our profile and shoot us an email that way, you don't even have to load up your email software or interrupt your session here.

Hope your workload lightens up a bit for you, I know what you mean, it's pretty hectic enough around here at Performance as well!

Hang in there,
