Question New Gears, reprogram superchip?

I am ordering some new gears this weekend, Probably 4:10's. I have a superchip and was wondering if it had to be reprogramed for the new gears, or if it will continue to work. Anyone done this mod? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

I'm no expert on this, but I believe you will not need to reprogram the chip. From other posts that were put up, Mike from Superchips told someone that unless they were doing something radical i.e. installing a supercharger and/or nitrous, than they would not need to reprogram...I think they were installing underdrive pulleys, and one or two other small mods, and were concerned.

the only reasonyou might want to get it reflashed is to correct your speedo, but you can probally get the correct speedo gear for 20 bucks and that should take care of it.

Tim-

The engine management of the Superchip is fine, but you need to get the Superchip programmed to fix your speedometer and shift points. On 99 and newer, you don't do a speedo gear swap, they require a computer program recalibration. Ford can only program for their factory gear and tire combinations, which will not help you here, as Ford does not offer those gears.

Hi tlocke,

Max's response was correct; in the 1999 & newer F-150's, the Superchip will have to be reprogrammed to correct the speedometer and odometer error, and in your automatic transmission vehicle, the shift points are affected as well.

In the 1997 & 1998 F-150's, they still use a standard reduction gear (speedo gear) in the tailshaft of the transmission which can be changed quickly and cheaply. Starting with the 1999 model year in the F-150, this can no longer be corrected with a change of the speedo gear, as it no longer has one.

You can still drive your vehicle with the Superchip and the 4.10 gears before you have the program changed, just as you can still drive it on the factory program; just be aware that your speedometer and odometer are going to be way off, and the shift points won't be right either.

Give us a call or drop us an email & we can get you all the info you'll need on getting this done.
