Superchips?
Superchips?
I know this has been beaten to death so I apologize up front.
Does Superchips have a 2002 program for the 5.4?
If so, what does it actually change in the PCM? i.e. shift points, shift firmness through line pressure changes, timing, air/fuel ratios, throttle response/position, etc, etc.
Also, for those who have it, while cruising/driving, and when you press on the gas pedal....does the car downshift immediately? Meaning, does it take a lot less gas pedal (position) for the truck to downshift and take off?
I have aftermarket programming on my Corvette and the throttle response is amazing.....and when touching the gas...to say pass another car.....the car downshifts very quickly and bolts forward. Does the Superchips program do this for our F-150's? Thanks everyone.
I am still learning the board and really appreciate everyone's input and knowledge

Hi KeithG,
In these F-150's, the Superchip retunes the engine specifically for the use of premium gas to make maximum horsepower & torque all the time, at any throttle position or rpm.
You're never going to get throttle response in your 5500 lb. F-150 ORP like your Corvette has of course, aside from the obvious extra ton of weight and a much larger aero profile, these F-150 engines have nowhere near the compression or valve timing profiles your LS1 motor has. I love Corvettes by the way, have had 13 of them so far. Looks like yours has some nice mods! We tune those GM LS1 motors as well.
The Superchip is basically a 10%-12% power gainer in these trucks, and that is what the vehicle will feel like, as if you picked up about 10% more motor under the hood, in addition to much better response from the automatic transmission.
The Superchip will clean up the slow & sloppy shift characteristics of the automatic transmission. It's not going to shift inappropriately "hard," it will shift quicker, firmer in direct response to amount of throttle opening, and have much less slippage and a noticeably quicker response to driver input. Various delays & retards are removed as well as the top speed limiter in most cases.
Yes, you will notice that it takes less throttle opening to effect a downshift, and the downshift (as well as upshift) delay is removed as well. All in all, the Superchip basically makes the F-150 feel like it should have from the factory.
The Superchip is not going to turn your F-150 into a Corvette of course, but it is the single most cost-effective performance enhancement in terms of bang for the buck, powertrain programming usually is on most computer controlled vehicles. You'll love what it does for your F-150.
Please feel free to give us a call to go over all of this in detail, & good luck with your truck!

Thank you so much for the information. So I take you do have a program for the 2002 5.4? I received your e-mail also about the Air Force 1 and really appreciate it. I assume also that it is a do-it-yourself install, correct? It sound like a need to get one. The only other mod I will have is probably the Air Force 1 intake so I am not sure if the program wuld be different. Anyway, can you shoot me an e-mail with the prcing for the Superchips program?
Also, is the program the same for eveyone? Meaning, do you have different levels of programming, if so, how do I know which one I would want? I just viewed the thread by RebelYell and his sounds like what I would want.
Thanks for the comments on my Vette. The car is a real beast with the mods and a blast to drive.

Hi Keith,
Yes, you rascal, you have me drooling over your Corvette!! Though I've had 13 of them, I have not owned a late-model. The last one I had was a 1995 model bought new. Actually, it was verified as the last Z07 made. I had just bought a new 94, but wanted a Z07, and just got lucky, found the last one on a dealer's showroom floor, and it was a dealer who sold only a very low volume of Corvettes, and just ordered it loaded with everytheng except convertible, of course, to sit in the showroom.
These days I get my kicks with a Lightning, which is quite the change, but it's a blast having a seriouly quick truck.
Yes, we have programs for the 2002 5.4 F-150's, we have had since just shortly after they rolled off the assembly lines, which happened late this year, not until Octrober.
Yes, both the Superchip and the Air Force One are easy bolt-on installs that most people do themselves.
Talk to you soon!

Thanks Mike. We will be talking soon
I should note who did my mods since they did such a great job. Agostino Racing Engines (ARE) in Pickering Canada did my mods. Nick, Wade, and gang are top notch guys. And in fact Mike, I believe they use Superchips for programming...so kudos to Superchips. If Nick uses it, it must be good
Driving the Vette is simply a blast and everytime I get in it, it feels like the first time. Sorry I know this is not a "Vette" board. I love my F-150 Offroad as much believe it or not.............it's my 2nd F-150 and had 2 Rangers prior (wouldn't own one again after having an F-150)! Anyway, the Vette is putting out 384 to the wheels and probably a bit more since the tuning is being fine tuned with the timing and air/fuel. I take it to shows in the Summer and drag race it too
A blast.....simply a blast.

Hi Mike
I keep seeing info about what gas to use with the Superchips program but noone has actually said which octane? Which octane is needed with the program?

Hi KeithG,
A good quality 91 thru 94 octane gasoline is required with the "standard" signle program Superchip.
If you go with our dual octane 2-program Flip Chip, it will have an 87 octane program and a 91+ octane program and you can select programs by flipping it's attached toggle switch.
