Diablo

Hi all,

I finally took delivery of my 02 supercab XLT 4 wheel drive, and have a question regarding chips.

Today while visiting my bro in Toronto, I loaned him my truck to run a few errands (so he said)

When he returned 4 hours later, he told me he had a surprise for me, the sneaky bugger went to a SVT Ford dealership and bought a Diablo performance chip, he had Ford do the install.

I can notice a vast improvement in acceleration, especially in first and 2nd gear. It also sounds quiter. It feels like someone poured viagra in the gas tank.

As I was planning on buying a superchip from Mike, does anyone know if I am short changing myself with the Diablo chip?

After all, I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but if the superchip is mucho times better, then I want to know if it will be worthwhile for me to yank the Diablo in exchange for a superchip.

I don't want to seem ungrateful, because I really am, but if superchip is better to the point where it's worth switching, then what my brother doesnt know wont hurt him.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Habibi

Hey had my Diablo since last Fall, have never looked back. And besides it reconized by Ford Motor Company and will not void your warranty unless they can prove there is a connection to the failed components involved. I installed mine around 43,000 miles and wish I had done this from the day I took delivery of my 1999 Lariat.

Afterall, look who installed this for you, a Ford dealer, around Kansas City we have quite a few who are authorized by Diablo Sport.

Hi Habibi,

First, just to respond to something in Showya's post, no performance chip is "recognized" or officially endorsed by Ford Motor Company. There are some Ford dealerships that sell & install various performance parts, and some of them carry various brands of chips, to be sure. But Ford Motor Company doesn't "recognize" or officially endorse any chip, and this has been pointed out before when this was claimed in the past.

To answer your question, if you are happy with what you have there, then is no pressing reason to spend even more money to change it, since you just bought it. The Diablo chip doesn't give quite what the Superchip does for these vehicles, but it's certainly better than a Hypertech, Jet, etc. It's obvious that you're happy with it, so I'd say just enjoy it & have fun!

My experience

I bought a Diablo first, I took it back only because of how harsh it made the downshift from 1st to 2nd.
I then bought a Superchip and the power was the equal from what I felt, but there is no hard downshifts.

iceman 1982,

You got a custom programmed Diablo that increased hp by 35!?!
Did he tell you it was 35 extra hp or did you have it dynoed? Did your low end torque increase? In other words....can you spin your tires more? Thanks.

Habibi, I would say enjoy the Diablo. That is very cool of your brother to do that. Drive with the Diablo for ten, twenty thousand miles then if you feel like it get a Superchip to see what you think. I think with any chip, the more time you have it in there the better you can tell what it is doing.

From what I have heard Diablo has taken atvantage of Superchips R&D when it comes to tuning our trucks. That is good for you (if I am correct on this).
Thoes of us with the Superchip tend to believe that it is the best chip out there. I think one of the reasons we think this way is we have had a chance to learn a lot about what it does to make our trucks better. We are very fortunate to have a distrubuter who knows his products and does his best to give us all the information we can use.
We don't hear as much about the Diablo. One thing that I have heard is that it is closer to the Superchip than any of the others.

I think that is an awsome gift. You must have a really cool brother.
Have fun!

Tom

Thank you

Thanks for all the replies.

I don't know what the superchip feels like, but all I can say is that I've been grinning from ear to ear ever since this Diablo chip was installed.

I was a little skeptical at first because I wasn't sure what to expect, but the difference was instant.
I've been running Sunoco 94 octane gas since the install, and to be honest, the extra money for premium fuel doesn't bother me because of the performance increase. If I don't settle down soon, I'm going to have to buy a helmut, haha.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Best

Since we are talking about chips I'll have a go. I have a 2001Lightning. I bought a DIABLO chip right off and was never happy with it. I have since purchased one of SAL's 4way chips over at PSP and I love it. The difference is unbelievable. I don't really know what the difference is between all the different chips. I wish someone would explain it. As for my DIABLO chip, I sent it back three times at my expence and never was satisfied. The shifting was extreemely hard and erratic.

Hello, I was just wanting to know where you get the chip from and how much are they.?

Also do you know what model # I would need for a 02 Screw 4x4

and last , with the chip do you have to run the higher octane gas?

Thanks, sorry for all the Questions...

Hi DoubleEagle,

My chip was purchased from Summit Ford in Toronto, they are an authorized SVT dealer.
This chip was a gift to me, but I think my bro said he payed about $600 Canadian dollers. (chip cost + 1 hour of shop time for the install)
The installation guide recommends using premium fuel. I've been running Sunoco 94 octane.

The website listed in the instructions is:
http://www.diablosport.com/

Hope this helps

Habibi

DoubleEagle

If you are interested in a SuperChip, you can buy them here from performance parts at the F150online store. That's how I got mine, and I love it. It does require premium gas, though. You can get a flip chip if you want to run regular gas. Flip chip has 2 seperate programs that you can shoose to run.
mike T can answer any questions you have.

Good looking truck! I really like the wheels. look alot better to me than my 17 inch ORP wheels. I like the straight spokes instead of the sawtooth style.

Hi Double Eagle,

In terms of where to get the Superchip, that can be done by clicking on the link just below in our signature line, which will take you to our online ordering system. That online ordering system is here on F-150 Online, but it's not actually in the F-150 Online Store, it's in *our* online system, which is a separate link. I know it can be confusing sometimes, so you can just click on the link in our signature line to make it easy for you, when the time comes.

We also run a banner ad here, actually, a couple of them, one of which is about the Superchip, and when that one pops up, you can click on that and it wll take you to that system as well. Our other banner ad talks about everything from intake to superchargers, will send us an email when clicked upon.

Just FYI............

RebelYell, as always, thanks for your posts & the help!
