nitrous chip???
nitrous chip???
HEY MIKE, or any one else that knows,
I need a dual stage chip for my truck, And was wondering do you have to turn the truck off before you flip the switch for the nitrous program. Most street races this would seem to be a tad un handy. or can you just fip it and go on. Ive insatlled the nitrous exspress kit and the added hp is a majior grin to use. With the 4.2 how much more hp would i get from the chip on nitrous im currently running a 75hp shot with k/n air box mod gibson swept side cat back. still using the stock 19lb injecters. Should i go ahead with 24lb or bigger injecters. I know its several ?s in one post . any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dale,
You need to give us a call to go over this in proper detail. Our contact info is just below, give us a call & we'll be happy to go over all of this with you.
Briefly, you do not have any injector capacity on a 4.2 V-6 to go with nitrous, unless you go with a "wet" nitrous kit. You will need the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, as you'll need a separate program for nitrous.
19# injectors on a 6 cylinder engine will only support about 230 HP @ 80% duty cycle, 250 to *maybe* 260 hp maxed out (this is at nominal factory fuel pressure), so it's good you're thinking of going larger on the injectors (24# on a 6-banger = 288 HP @ 80% assuming .500 BSFC), the MAF needs upgrading too, you should do those together, at the same time.
I think your Nitrous Express kit has a method of adding additional fuel, and if so, that's what saved you on this.
They are a good company, we hear great feedback on their nitrous kits. In fact, we supplied Superchips tuning for their GM truck that hauls their trailer to the various shows some time back.
Just give us a shout when you get a chance & we'll be more than happy to go over all of this & help you get all the performance you want from your 4.2 V-6 F-150, we love to see the V-6 guys lean on 'em!

A 75HP shot on the V6s tends to actually add about 90HP. Fuel/timing retard is critical. The 4.2s have hypereutectic pistons but the ringlands are thin and very prone to heat = damage from detonation. One of my customers cars, a 99 3.8L Mustang saw almost 60rwhp from a supposed 35 shot.
You will need the 24# injectors. They are getting down right reasonable as far as pricing. It shouldn't be hard to find some for sale used, cheap.
You might also need to upgrade the fuel pump.
Your stock MAF is a 70mm. It will physically flow enough to support your power. You just need somebody competent enough to adjust the 24# injector curves to match the stock MAF transfer function. Not every one can do this regardless of what they "claim".
Feel free to e-mail me if you need more info. I have a ton of experience with boosting and spraying the V6s.

Cobrahms9,
As we have told you before, running nitrous oxide on top of the Vortech supercharger and all the other modifcations you have on that stock F-150 4.6 motor is not advisable, which is precisely why we told you we prefer not to tune for that setup.
You are making almost 400 hp right now, and you also have a problem with not venting the crankcase pressure properly that is causing you to bring oil up into the throttle body and potentially contaminating the A/F mixture. That needs to be taken care of properly *before* you think about using the nitrous.
However, I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll find somebody willing to help you turn that engine into shrapnel, but we sure don't advise doing this without a proper short-block assembly using forged pistons, rods & crank up to the task and taking care of the other problems you have first, as we have previously advised you.
I would suggest calling us about this, Jim.

I have a wet fogger plate system shooting 100 shot into the plenum of a Kenne Belle blower by a stage 2 annular discharge nozzle. Truck has upgraded injectors(42lbs), 80mm MAS, larger fuel rails, dual pumps in tank...and a lot of other upgrades to support this combo...though I am pretty near the max of where i can go...maybe a 90 mm MAS before going internal. My tuner, JDM engineering has programmed a flip chip (superchip) for me...agressive street on side one, and 3 degrees difference for the nitrous. I DO have to turn the truck off , take key out, and then flip switch to side 2. The explanation is simple..
I could have the chip to run both blower and NOS all the time, but at the expense of street performance.
Also, if i were on side 1 and hit the NOS....my internals would become externals!!!
But i do agree, i hate it when you're neck to neck with a late model turbo porsch carrerra, and can't add the squeeze....rats!!!https://www.f150online.com/galleries...y.cfm?gnum=824

Hi BTBFord,
That is one beautiful truck, to say the least, WOW!
The 5.4 motor has a forged steel crank stock, so it can stand up to more power & abuse, certainly, than the 4.6 F-150 motor crank can.
We would not push a true 600 hp on the stock rods (the 5.4 has 6.75" rods), or with the stock pistons. It's easy to make big power, making it last at those power levels is another matter. Some people do get lucky however, and it's really more a matter of how the vehicle is actually operated and maintained as opposed to the engines maximum peak power output when pushed to the limit. I hope that works well for you long-term, it sure is an impressive truck!
We know Jim D'Amore up at JDM of course, we distribute his parts, it's a great shop & Jim is a dyed in the wool drag racer, to be sure.
I would agree, at those power levels, you really should have the 90mm MAF.
I'm going to try to stop drooling over your truck now............
