Porting the plenum could potentialy require some program adjustments if it's a serious enough increase in airflow to affect A/F's. Usually most throttle bodies don't *require* custom programming, though many of them can benefit from it.

We advise calling us to go over all of this in detail, so you'll know exactly what you can and cannot do without custom tuning/programming being required, so you can map out a good plan of attack to get your performance wher you want it in the most cost-effective manner.

well i need to get a new TB. i believe the stock one is 56mm @$250 . BBK has a 61mm one which is only 5mm larger for about the same cost . i know from reading other posts here that a lager TB is useless without the plenum being ported to match . my goal with the mods i have done already . the ones i want to do and the superchip is to be sitting as close to 300 hp as possible . but as you said i want to be cost effective since i am on a limited budget. i didnt think 5 mm would be that big of a difference but i thought i would ask anyhow

Ford: 1987-96 5.0L-5.8L F150-350, twin 61 mm, 50-state legal, cast aluminum, performance throttle body

This Edelbrock high-performance throttle body is part of a winning combination for today's late model 5.0L-5.8L truck enthusiast. This twin 61 mm throttle body is ideal for stock manifolds and produces approximately 15 percent more air flow than the production throttle body. It's also 50-state street legal for all 1987-96 5.0L-5.8L F150-350 trucks. Gaskets are included.

from the sounds of this i dont need to port/polish my plenum?

Hi MacGyver,

Without making more significant modifications to your engine, you won't see much of a power gain from a larger throttle body, however, if you have to replace it anyway, or feel that is something you just want to do, we can supply that unit, just give us a call.

What you found on that sticker (E9TF-ARA) is a partial calibration code (not the computer code we need), but it's missing the middle section. On a later-model (1887 & newer) F-150, "12A650" would go in the middle, and we could do a cross-reference on it to the catch code, or computer code as we call it, and that would give us what we need. Since yours is an older one, a 1990 model, that doesn't apply, so we still need the ECU's proper code, for which you'll need to remove the ECU, as we've been discussing.

Speaking of which, we got an email from someone using this same name, "MacGyver," asking for the instructions to remove the ECU, but the email didn't give us any info whatsoever about what kind or year of vehicle those instructions were needed for, or anything other info, just that name, so we had no idea that was you. In our email response yesterday, I basically said that and requested that ou write back with your vehicle info (year, make, model, etc.) so we'd know how to help you properly. We deal with too many people to know who is using what screen name here, or what they drive, so unless they tell us when they communicate with us in email, it's rather difficult for us to respond with information that is accurate and of immediate help to you.

If you wouldn't mind, please shoot us another quick email with that info (or you can call us with your email address if you like for quicker service), & we'll be more than happy to respond with those instructions on how to remove the ECU in a pre-1997 F-150, so you can finally find your code!

I'm sorry it hasn't been easy to find the code on this one, but hang in there, with the instructions we'll send you can get to the ECU and see the big sticker on top which will have the code.

Talk to you soon,
