Pinging at speed in Navigator...
I just had my 01 navigator chipped and have noticed some pinging at speed at WOT. I use premium fuel.
The dealer who installed it for me just pulled the chip to send back to Superchip for them to diagnose. Any ideas on why these symptoms are happening?
btw...no pinging without the chip.
Thanks
Jeff

Yeah, it's pretty simple. Pinging @ WOT = a/f ratio set too high. Need to reflash.
How did you get the dealer to endorse the chip. All the dealers here use it as a "modification" excuse.

Sorry for the confusion. It was done by an aftermarket shop that the dealer recommended for some other work I was having done. The dealer doesn't know I put a chip into the vehicle.
That is not a normal result, and I would not jump to conclusions that it has anything at all to do with the A/F ratios, as it doesn't.
98 times out of 100, it's just poor fuel quality, and is cured by using the correct grade and brand of 91 or higher premium gasoline. Trying to use cheaper off-brands, no-names, Exxon, or any "gasahol" blends can cause pinging in many cases, as they all have a very low energy content. That is cured by using the correct fuel.
It is extremely rare to have to adjust the program in the Superchip, we have customers all over this country, and not one is suffering from detonation because the program was too aggressive. Our customers do not require any program adjustments, as they use good fuel quality, that is one thing we advise them on, and as long as they follow our suggestions, they do not have any issues with pinging. The Superchip will operate just fine on any good quality premium gasoline of 91 octane of higher.
On rare occasion, you may find one particular geographic area where fuel quality is so poor that even the best brands just aren't good enough, but that is *extremely* rare. I'd bet this is an issue of fuel quality, it's not going to have anything to do with A/F ratios.
