CHip for vette
CHip for vette
Hey Mr Troyer,
I just got my chip from Crash today, one of the bunch you did for him,and would like to say thanks!!! I finally don't have to let off throttle in the 1-2 shift to avoid the rev limiter.....this thing is pretty quick; ).....Anyway my friends 2001 vette is in need of some reprogramming. He added a Haltech ram intake and a Granatelli maf .WHen cruising at 40mph or so ,and he lets off the gas,it begins to sputter bad.Since then he's put the stock maf back on and the sputter is much less.Needless to say,he needs to get these toys in and working. If you can do the programming for him let me know and I'll have him call you.Or if you dont deal w/ chevy just post someone you trust who does.
Thanks,
Frank

Howdy,
I have a 1996 Corvette Conv (LT4). I got my computer programming custom tuned by a fellow named "Ed Wright". www.Fastchip.com
He has the best reputation when it comes to programming chips for the vette. Tell your friend to try and get some money back for the Granatelli MAF, because it is 100% pure junk (seriously does nothing). Tell your friend to head over to-
www.CorvetteForum.com
That is the most informative Corvette place on the internet. Have him become a member, and he will have any question answered within 15 minutes.
I live in Texas, so I drove to Kansas City where Ed Wright's shop is. $500, and I got a dyno tune. He ran about 15 runs on the dyno, and completely calibrated my computer. Your friend's vette is an OBDII computer, so he cant just get a plug in. Have him contact Ed for more info.
Hope this helps,
Andy

Hi Frank,
We were happy to take care of that custom tuning for your supercharger & other modifications, I'm glad you're able to really enjoy that blower & get all the power out of it that you should be.
The later LS1/LS6 Corvettes have many differences in hardware and software as compared to the older 1992-1996 LT1's & LT4's, we've tuned many of them. I've owned 13 Corvettes myself, so I guess you could say I've been a Corvette nut all my life. It's very hard to not run out and snag a new Z06 right now.
I don't feel that Granatelli MAF's in general are "junk," though there is a time and a place for using larger MAF's & throttle bodies. They are manufactured by Pro-M (Pro-flo), and though sometimes you will get one that has a problem, it's usually a calibration problem, and they are generally pretty good at taking care of those issues when they arise in our experience. Getting that kind of result is not "normal" when installing an aftermarket MAF, whether it's a Pro-M, C&L, etc. They usually run pretty smooth, but if the calibration is off or if it's just too lean, that can cause a stumble, etc. What's happening with your friend's '01 Corvette is obviously not normal, and since it mostly goes away when the stock MAF is reinstalled, that is a logical place to start looking, certainly.
Anytime an aftermarket MAF is used, a custom program should be done to compensate, as one thing that virtually all have in common on almost all vehicles these days is that they lean out the A/F ratio, and many of them by as much as 2 full points.
Just have your freind give us a shout, & we'll be happy to go over this with him.

Thanks for the replies guys. I forwarded the info to my friend to let him make up his mind, but I think he might opt for the Superchip because of the experience I had w/ Mr Troyer..Oh yeah Mike, check out my post in the Supercharger section,I took my truck to the track...:0 )
Thanks again all!
Frank
Thanks again all!

Head over to www.CorvetteForum.com and see what the enthusiasts say. It is most likely the best place to start. They are much smarter than me
Also, the stock MAF on the vette is good up to 500hp, so he most likely won't need another one.
I put a Z06 MAF on my vette when I got custom tuned, and it squeezed out 6 hp.

His friend is already working with us on this, and we are correcting some other problems he has with some other parts while we're at it.
There is no substitute for working with the most experienced tuner in the business, which, for Corvettes & many other vehicles is Superchips.
