Question for Super Chip Mike
In the Lightning forum I have been reading some posts about burning the electrodes off of spark plugs after installing the chip. Some say that they are changing to NGK plugs but some guys say that they have burned NGK plugs also.
With the mods I ordered from you, I am hoping for reliability plus performance without a lot of problems. That's why I didn't go as far as some guys with the modifications. My truck is a daily driver.
1.) 2-program Superchip Flip Chip
2.) JDM Cold Air Intake Kit
3.) Magnaflow muffler # 14568, stainless steel
4.) Line Mod Valve
5.) 4X4 Transmission pan & filter/fluid pickup extension
6.) 2" Drop Shackles for the rear suspension
7.) Boost By-pass kit
8.) Crankcase pressure breather cap
Some guys have said that they have found their spark plugs to be only finger tight when checking them. I don't want to sound like Chiken Little but I'm a little concerned. Can you reassure me that the mods I've ordered are the right ones reliability and lack of problems?
Thanks,
Tim

Hello Tim,
Sure!
In general, you have nothing to worry about in your selection of parts, we don't let people make mistakes there, we won't supply parts that we know will cause a problem.
Lightnings in general do not burn electrodes off spark plugs unless they aren't tuned properly for the level of boost being used, or are using low quality fuels, or some types of octane boosters/fuel additives, or the wrong type or wrong heat range of plug, etc. There are Lightnings running in the mid-11's in the 1/4 mile, on the motor (no nitrous), running 17+ PSI boost, that *never* burn a spark plug.
One thing that has been seen on some Lightnings are loose spark plugs, as you mentioned, and that can, in a worst case scenario, cause a spark plug to be blown out of the spark plug hole. That happens whether the vehicle is modified or not, your parts aren't going to make any difference there. There aren't many threads on the factory plug, and add that in to the fact that they are somtimes not properly torqued at the factory, and that can add up to the occasional spark plug blow-out. It's usually not a big deal, just replace the plug.
We recommend using the Denso Iridium spark plug, that's what I'm using in my Lightning, and in fact, all our vehicles here are being changed over to them. Just give us a call for details on that spark plug. I like them better than the NGK's, as they have a .4mm firing tip, 50% smaller than the competition, allowing for better unshrouding of the spark & better flame front propagation.
All in all, don't worry about your parts selection, as you have been pretty conservative, noting you have ther is goign to cause a problem. Just to let you know, I have everything you have there, as well as *far* more modificatons on my Lightning, and it is my daily driver too, and completely reliable as well as pretty darned fast.
Your choices are just fine Tim, so you're in good shape!
By the way, there's this bunch of boxes that have your name all over them. They're way to you right now.
Sure!

a question about the superchip
Hey i need to know a few things about the superchip. Can i get one for my 200 F-150 with a 5.4. What does the chip do about the top speed limiter of 105. Does it change the shift points and how it shifts. Well your responses would be greatly appreciated.
Hi shads302,
Sure, you can get one for your 2000 F-150 with any engine, we cover all of them from the 4.2 V-6 to either version of the V-8.
We just need to know your vehicle's computer code, and that is very easy to find. Just go to the passenger side of the vehicle, and open the front passenger door. Then look in the front part of the door frame, in the area of the door hinges, and there you should see a small white sticker that has 3 letters and 1 number on it. That is your computer code! Let me know if you have any trouble finding it.
The Superchip removes the top speed limiter on most of these vehicles, the vast majority of which have top speed limiters of 98 mph, but a few have limiters as high as 108 mph.
Yes, we do take care of the slow & sloppy shifting, so you will see a nice improvement there, too, with improved driveability. The shifr delays and transitional retards in the factory program are removed, and the shifts firmed in direct correlation to the amount of throttle opening, making the transmisison shift just as it should in these trucks and helping it to last longer.
If you would like to go over these changes we make in detail, please feel free to give us a call, we'll be happy to go over all of that with you in more detail than we can type out here on the boards.
