OBD 2 port dead?

My cousin took her 04 F150 in for emissions testing and they plugged into the port and got no reading at all. They tried at two different locations and same result. Is there a blown fuse or something that will shut down the port and not give a reading?

BTW its an 04 XLT with the 5.4 and it runs just fine. I'm going to take my unused X4 over there and plug in and see what I get. I suspect the minimum wage flunkies at the state run testing station did not know what they are doing. They even told her that it was not giving a reading because she wasn't driving it enough. Really, I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

Blown fuse for the cigar lighter, usually. Port is on same fuse.

x2 on the cigar lighter fuse.

Thanks, I figured there was a fuse somewhere. The OBD 2 port just doesn't go dead for no reason.

first though, you want to try and find out why the fuse blew, if it was a blown fuse.....

The usual reason is that something defective (charger or other 12 volt "toy", etc) was plugged into the cigar lighter outlet and that caused the fuse to blow.

Her grand daughter left a charger plugged in and it went bad, blowing the fuse.

This is a great example of two things:

1. Why you don't bypass fuses. In this case, the fuses blew, protecting the device and wiring from burning up catching the truck on fire.
2. Hopefully a lesson learnt not to keep things constantly plugged into the aux and cigar lighters.

I saw where someone's cell charger kept popping fuses. They got sick of it, and replaced the fuse with a cut-down penny nail. Later that day, they had no car.

Also, the number one reason people need jump starts is from crappy 12v cell chargers being left in all day or weekend, due to high quiescent current draw from the crappy device.

In 2007, there were 2 different versions of the Owners Manual. The fuse location is different. Depending on your truck, it may be a different fuse. On mine, it was an expensive cartridge fuse. Not the low cost mini fuse.
