2001 F150 SC with Superchip help needed
Well, after putting 211,xxx miles on my 2001 SuperCrew it finally happened. I need to take my baby to a Ford dealer because of starting issues.
Here's the problem, I need to remove the "superchip" from the PCM (I think) before taking it in but, I don't have the installation instructions and it's been 12 years since installing it. I can't remember where the heck it is located so I can pull the chip. Anyone out there have a copy of the instructions or can tell me where to start looking? Thanks in advance. Ron |
You don't need instructions. The device will walk you through the process.

If it's an actual chip, it has to be physically removed. If it's a programmer, you plug it in to the OBD2 port and return the tune to stock.
Why do you have to remove it? |
Come on guys,
glc, it's a chip not a programmer and I know it plugs directly into the PCM on a 2001 F150. Roadie, I want to know where the PCM is located on my 2001 F150. It's been 14 years since I installed it and at the age of 73, I don't remember back that far for piddle things. I wouldn't have to ask but the program on the Service CD, I have for my truck, quick working after I upgraded all my Windows PC's to Version 8.1 and later. ; ' { I guess if all else fails I'll try and find a Windows 95 or 7 install disk and an old hard drive and install it. |
My bad. I didn't realize you could install a chip on that model. My 2002 has the superchips programmer. My free download of a 97 manual says it's located on the right side of the engine compartment. That's the passenger side.

Thanks Roadie, I have a very vague memory it's in the cabin passenger side near or under the dash. I can't remember if I had to remove the kick panel under the dash or not. I'll take a look in the AM
|
On the 2001, it's tucked up under the dash on the passenger side above the kick panel - inside the truck, not under the hood.
Have you tried running your CD in compatibility mode? If you have a disk and don't want to hassle with a hard drive, you can install VirtualBox and install it in a VM. |
Thanks Guy's, found it and removed it this morning. Now on to see if I get the intermittent starting issues fixed
