What about the Jet Performance Module?
Is anyone using the Jet Performance Module, and is it a solid performer in your opinion?
I installed one in my 2001 F-150 Supercrew; took 15 minutes at 10:30 P.M. - couldn't wait! My MPG went up slightly, and enjoy smoother acceleration and towing power (four horses - really).
There has been so much talk about the Superchips I had to ask.

Not a chipper but yes they will all work in different degrees
You see the smoother performance because they all change the timing. Not much HP gain(if any) but smoother. Think of them as tweakers rather than tuners. Some change the AT shifting and this does improve performance.

I am using the Jet chip. It was one of the first things I did to the truck. Didn't know at the time that there was any choice.
I am consideing a Superchip but I am getting pretty good throttle response, boggs a little more than I like out of the hole but that is more the rear end ratio than anything else.
Before any mods this truck was very un- responsive. From mid throttle to full throttle there was no response. And a 70mph pass was slow. The thing I like about the Jet Chip is I am able to run regular gas with out detonation. I have noticed that I get a better MPG if I use premium but no noticable performance improvement.

The Jet chips/modules generally don't do what the Superchip does for these vehicles, though I'd be the first to point out that if anyone using the Jet is happy with their results, we don't suggest switching, just keep what you have for now and enjoy it!
Just to give you an idea of the differences between a Superchip and a Jet chip, the Jet products for these vehicles are "generic", like Hypertech and most others are, meaning there is only 1 program that has been compromised to run on all similar vehicles; whereas the Superchip is programmed specifically for the exact software revision in each individual vehicle's powertrain computer.
With hundreds of different factory programs each model year for just the F-150's alone, making each Superchip according to the exact software revision (or computer code, as we refer to it) is of critical importance to the results, as that is the only way the powertrain's programming can be fully optimized. Different functions are located in different areas of these programs from one revision to the next, different methods to do different things are used, etc. Generic programming like Jet & others do in these vehecles (for example, only 1 program for all 1998 4.6 automatic F-150's) cannot deliver the same quality of results that the code-specific programming from either the Superchip or a Diablosport chip does.
If you ever see any of the posts here from those who have actually run both the Jet chip and the Superchip in the same vehicle, you quickly see that everyone who has done that has always posted that they preferred the Superchip hands down in their direct comparison.
The other primary issue is that the Jet unit as well as most others do not tune the engine and add power at all throttle positions like the Superchip does, which means it cannot help towing as much as the Superchip does, for example.
Those are the 2 biggest differences between Superchips and Jet or Hypertech, etc., the fact that the Superchip is programmed for each individual vehicle's ECU and the fact that it tunes & adds power *all* the time.
All that having been said, we hope those running the Jet unit are happy with their results. Some of them work better than others, depending on just what ECU software revision your particular vehicle came from the factory with; if you happen to have a particular computer code that Jet based their tuning on for a particular vehicle, then it can actually add power gains, so if you're happy with what you have, by all means continue to use it and enjoy it!

I had a Jet Module on my truck, the only thing I noticed was a little bit of a firmer shift while under WOT. When I had to take the module out (for warranty work) my truck felt liked it had more power. But like Mike said, they are generic. My module will work on any F150-F350 that has a 5.4L/automatic!!
Hi therock,
Thanks for your post, & sorry to hear you weren't happy with that Jet unit.
It all depends on what vehicle & what code you happen to have with those Jet units, as for a few codes, they can add some power. Others don't feel as much improvement, and some even slow down a bit. It's a bit of a crap-shoot when you have a "generic" program.
That's not to say that a Jet chip can't work, some of their owners are very happy, as we see in some of the posts above. If they're happy, that's all that matters.
