MPG info for Edge Programmer CS

I have a 04 FX4 5.4L and I have a Edge Programmer CS Im trying to figure out the best way to set it up for the best MPG, I originally put it on the level 1 and didn’t notice any difference after a few weeks, in my MPG. so I put it at a level 3 and filled up with 93. definitely noticed a power difference but still no MPG difference, i see on the web site that guys have been getting up 15-19 around town, I want to know how, I took it real easy for a few tanks just to see if it would improve any, tried keeping it under 2000RPMs while taking off and everything, i was getting 11ish MPG before and after doing the i barley got over 12MPG. what is the big secret that these guys are getting 15+?

Any mods to your truck? Stock wheels and tires?

there's no garantees for better mpgs when using a programmer...these trucks are bricks....

over sized tires and cheap gas don't help either....

Are you adjusting the PCM for the taller tires?

I input the tire size in the programmer, and its not like I put Giant tires on it, their only one size up from stock, it shouldn’t make more than a mile per gallon difference, Iv had lifted trucks with way bigger tires and if didn’t make any difference. not sure why this one is just not getting any better, Im not expecting a night and day difference I know and understand its a full size truck. it just ticks me off that these guys are say they are getting 15-19 around town, and I can’t barley get over 12.

I was just seeing if there was a trick to it, or if maybe the Level 2 towing was where these guys were getting the milage from with out towing anything.

When I had my 2005, 5.4 with 3.55s, neither the canned tunes nor the custom tunes provided any noticable mpg gains. Lot's more performance, but no economy. I got about 15.5 most of the time. The bigger tires and wheels really cut into my mileage. I also lost about 10% when the 10% ethanol came into being.

Do you have the 3.55 ls or do you have the 3.73? I have the 3.73 with air raid cold air intake and dual maggie catbacks, and before I lifted my truck I could get about 18 mpgs highway and damn near 20 on long distance highway trips. With 35's now i get my best at 55 mph topping out at 15 mpgs. I am hoping to gain some back with the Gryphon CS I just ordered this weekend.

so you upsized the wheels, lifted the front, added a hot air intake and magnified with a canned tuning device??

#1 the driver mod is your only option for better mileage

#2 maintenance won't hurt anything and neither will a tune for the truck and the mods...

So when would you consider it a CAI? Does it have to have a hood vent or a blower? Or only in the winter when it is 0* outside?

Any intake that gets its air from under the hood is not a "cold" air intake. The factory intake gets its air from the wheelwell, which is cold in comparison.

I had an original EDGe (pre Evo) in my 4.6l 98, the best it did for MPG was about 1.5 mpg, so I was getting about 17 on highway. Neither that programmer or evo has shown any difference at all in my Expd, with 5.4.
