Pulled the trigger!!!!

After using the search feature in the forum I decided to go ahead with the tuner purchase today. I had a true dual system system a month or so ago, and decided it was time to change it up a little bit. I went with the xcal3 from VMP and I'm really excited. I've seen the discussions back and forth ab VMP and 5star so I'm excited to run on my own field tests. Thanks again guys for some great info regarding these 5.4L motors. I'm really excited to see how it runs with tires on it, as anyone knows its not a great feeling downshifting all the time when your runnin the true duals, hopefully it'll help it hold the gear longer.

so you installed larger tires and you think a tuning device is going to compensate for the needed re-gear???

Awwww .. hold on thar, fellers .. the OP just said 'tires', not 'Larger' tires.

Last I checked y'all needed tires for ground clearance, or else all sorts of thangs would scrape pavement, let alone the noisey, harsh ride.

OP - what size tires, and what is yer rear gearing - yer 6R80 can handle a minor bump in size, but no more.

Oh - and OP - welcome to the site - these are fine gentlemen here ( me being the exception ).

Thanks for welcoming. oh my were to start hahaha. I understand I should possibly re-gear considering tire size. Thank you for reminding me, I consider the situation to be a catch 9 b/c I personally dont want to at the moment. I'm runnin some 33" Nittos, nothin extravagant. Ha I've snooped around this site quiet sometime before I decided to join and I've seen MGD slay some ppl on here. Not really trying to start another thread a/b a tuner debate just excited for what I got. I eventually would like to install some type of lift and runnin a 35 possibly a 37, who knows....at that time I'll re-gear.

MGD - runnin a 3.55 rear and I do enjoy the 6r80 its a great trans, this being my first Ford and first 6 speed I've been quiet impressed comin from a 1500 Sierra with a 4L60E and a 10 bolt (which I blew up pullin out of the local Target) boy was that embarrassing.

I do understand that rubber does get heavy on the ol girl, but givin my jobs the truck sits at home ALOT. I might get shot but my daily driver is a '98 single cab Chevrolet S10. It currently is gettin 22 MPG's so its hard to work outta my king ranch lolol.

Thanks for welcoming again guys, don't wrry I won't fall victim to the broscience of trucks lololol

DewserB---I've seen a few of your videos floatin around with the LT's sounds great!!!! I've been thinkin ab punchin some money out of the account for a set just kinda been whatever about it. I do have a ?? for ya....did you start from the collector back and build it custom or did purchase the headers with a y-pipe??? Also, what happened with the tone and loudness of the truck?? My exhaust is dumped over the axle, and I'm startin to wonder if I'm gettin some excessive drone due to its location, so if I do lt's I might need to go ahead and carry it out the back....

Hey, bud! Thankee fer the props on the exhaust!

Allow me to answer your second issue first. Yes, the location of your dumps greatly increase the amount of interior drone while greatly decreasing the volume (and IMHO, the tone) of your exhaust. So, if you want it louder outside and you want to lose some of the drone inside, I'd take it out the back with a couple of 4x18 tips.

Secondly, my local exhaust shop did a custom fabrication on the true dual exhaust system from the LTs back. So, I don't need no steenkeeng Y-pipe.

The LTs increased the overall volume of the exhaust and gave it a unique tone that is almost completely lost in the exhaust vids you saw. After the LTs were installed, it really did give it a great overall sound that had just the right amount of volume, IMHO.

Of course, all of that is subjective, so individual results and opinions may vary.

Thanks again!

Ya should be fine with the 33's and 3.55's.....

anything bigger than the 34's is starting to put unwanted stress on the drive train....

Anytime, me good feller! Hope I helped a little.

There IS a price to pay in the aftermarket exhaust game, and I've yet to see or hear of an aftermarket setup where you can have your cake and eat it too. Certain sacrifices are made in order to achieve certain benefits. That's just the way it is.

Good luck with everything, and let us know how it all progresses.

Did you mean he set your tire rotation TO 640? If so, methinks that means he calibrated the tuning to allow for tires that turn 640 revolutions per mile, and that you may have to tweak them accordingly if your speedo is off a little.
