Used Edge CS - Need Input

Picked up a used Edge CS about 2 months ago. Made a little bit of a gamble when I bought the unit and would not suggest doing what I did. Unless, of course, you want to be on edge for about 2 months as to whether you threw away $150.

Found a craigslist add around christmas for an Edge CS. Texted the guy and he wanted $280 for it. I told him I would give him $200 and drive to him. He texted back and said he could only go down to $250. I didnt hear the text come through and never answered so he texted back that $200 was good. I bargained with him and didnt even know it

I get to the town he lives in and he meets me at a gas station. I tell him I want to hook the unit to my truck to prove that it works. He says sure. He plugs it in and shows me that the gauges are reading correctly to my vehicle and that the power level is on zero. At that point he was going to disconnect the unit and I told him I wanted to see how to install a tune because I had never done it. He goes to load a tune and when it asks you to turn the key to the on position without starting the vehicle an error code would pop up and it would just sit there.

Of course his response is, "oh.... Ive never seen it do that before..."

At that point the unit seemed to be functioning as far as turning on and the gauges working so I figured that I could send it off and get it fixed. I knew I should of walked away at that point but I figured if I could talk him down some more I would take a chance. I told him since the unit is not in working order I would give im $150. He balked at that figure at first and as I was walking back to my truck he finally said ok. I knew then that he knew of the issue with the unit and either didnt know what to do to get it fixed or didnt care and wanted to unload it on someone and rip them off. I went ahead and bought it anyway.

Dropped the unit off at the local off road performance shop. The tech there said that all he should have to do is run an update on the unit and that they had all the proper software to do this. After a week and no response he finally called back and said he was having problems. I figured I just had a $150 paper weight at that point. He told me they had sent it off to edge to get looked at. About 2 months and a few phone calls later I got the fully functioning unit back with no charge from edge or the shop I took it to.

I will tell you it was a rough 2 months. $150 isnt a ton of money but it is still $150

I do have a question for the Edge CS users with the 5.4 3v engine.

I have noticed on power level 3 that every now and then the engine will start to shudder. It kinda feels like when you have mud tires and you slow down to a stop and you can feel the lugs of the tires vibrating. In fact thats when i first noticed it. As I was slowing to a stop I felt the normal vibration of the trail grapps but when i completely stop the truck was still vibrating. As I drove a few hundred feet down the road the shudder cleared up and there were no warning lights on the dash or warnings from the Edge CS. It has done this once more since ive had it. It does not do this on level 1, 2 or stock. The only mod I have is a SI/SO exhaust with a glasspack style muffler. Plugs were changed 8k miles ago alog with the fuel filter, throttle body removal & clean, MAF clean.

Has anyone experienced this and with no codes or dash lights popping up do you think it is something I should worry about?

I'd recommend you contact PHP and get some custom tunes for it.

I am going through kinda the same thing. Bought a used evolution that couldnt be updated on the fusion software. They gave me a credit and I am upgrading to a CS. Got to keep the dash pod that I will modify to fit the CS. They definetly stand behind their product.
